Fuel injectors

I had yet another 'engine system failure' this past weekend. One of my fuel injectors has just packed up.

I am getting a bit gatvol of issues relating to diesel although I am assuming that this will be covered under warranty (unlike my last R16 000 fuel pump debacle). Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad I always fill up at a high volume station (Engen in this case).

In fact, if the new Defender didn't also have an engine management system I would seriously be considering a swap. But that one also has problems. It also appears as if the door seals are specced to UK standards and are designed to let water out (there is a gaping section on each door where the seals are). The problem is that in Africa this lets a lot of dust in. Can't win.

52 000 kms, and I have been servicing (oil changes) every 12 000 kms. I even have a 7A model which is supposed to only require a service every 24 000kms.

Our diesel is the same as SA's (500 ppm).

With the price of diesel going up the way it is, fuel filter issues, frequent servicing and bad quality fuel in Africe, I don't know why you guys don't join us brave few V8 petrol people(or are we accelerating too fast for you to see?). Laughing

You're absolutely right! This is my first and last diesel as all the problems I have had relate to fuel.

I had no idea there was such inconsistency with regard to diesel. The only reason I purchasesd a diesel though was for the torque. I am sure the V8 has sufficient.

Diesel vs 4,4l V8 petrol

Power

140kw @ 4,000rpm
220kw @ 5,500rpm

Torque

440Nm @1,900rpm
425Nm @ 4,000rpm

Soooo........ You want to get a diesel for 15Nm of Torque?!? Shocked W.T.F????

Tells you (almost) nothing, its the shape of the torque curve that matters at least as much as the peak figure, certainly it is more important than the 15Nm difference.

Doesn't pulling into EVERY gas station get you down Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Shocked

The sound of that V8, and the feeling as you put foot are worth the cash outlay. I don't do high mileage and don't tow anything, so when that torque peak kicks in, for me it is at an aural orgasm at 4000rpm. I love the V8. Thumbs Up

Just registered here after owning my V8 HSE for 3 years. I pull a 3400 kg rig (see my gallery) and it never fails to amaze me how well this car pulls my boat. I have done 94600 kilos without any mechanical problems, a lot of the time towing. When a gearbox is this good, the power/torque curve of the V8 comes in to it's own. But of course, at 100-110 km/h I average 35-38 l/100km. (Now registering a second bond with Engen!!) This is without doubt, the most reliable car I have owned. For those interested, I just extended my maintenance plan with Warranty Solutions for another 2 years. Much cheaper than Motorite (Land Rover) and the service is great. Happy Land Roving! Seriously, I feel personally that it is a nicer drive and is a lot more reponsive than the diesel. I get on average 15l/100km stop start driving and about 12 to 13l/100km on the open road.

This is a beautiful vehicle. I have had absolutely no major issues.

I personally dont care which fuel it uses, just responding to a typical attack on deisel from a obviously jealous petrol owner Whistle
and besides, I cant afford the loan repayments for the annual fuel bill Rolling with laughter (I bought another house instead Wink )
