| FWD parking sensors only operate when reverse is selected? |
|
Anyone else had a D4 that the fwd parking sensors only operate when reverse is selected? Or is my one special.......

It's to stop them false firing in slow traffic. The D3 used to have the fronts activate below a certain speed but the operation was changed with a new module to prevent the above. Andy

But if the fronts only work when in reverse, what good are they when going forward into a parking space... or have I missed something?  As you slide down the banister of life

They ACTIVATE when placed into reverse and stay live even in a forward gear until the vehicle speed exceeds a threshold or the button is pressed. Apologies - I didn't read the original question properly!  Andy

So when parking the car you have to first select reverse gear, then drive to activate the forward sensors at all times?
My older model has the deactivation button on the dash. So never had a problem with false firing. As you slide down the banister of life

I just press the button... Turns them off if they are on and turns them on if they are off... It's next to the DSC on/off button.. With the Hazard triangle in between them..

This is a bit daft really. My Merc's sensors activated automatically below about 3 mph. You did get the odd blip when someone walked between cars in stationary traffic, but it was better than having to manually activate when parking.
On the D4 the auto activation of front and rear heated screens is a pain in cold weather - the vast majority of the time I don't need them.
So where it should be auto it's manual (front parking sensors), and where it should be manual it's auto (heated screens)!
Minor niggles really on a great car. Paul

Yep. The front sensors are activated by the button. (or obviously by reverse) This is quite common on german cars as well. In my opinion it is better than an automatic activation, as it does not bother you unnecassarily and, if you need them, you know that you need them (e.g. you are approaching a wall) and there is nothing simpler than pushing a small button, right? 8)

This can give instances of sensor warnings when the vehicle stops at a junction and another vehicle or pedestrian passes in front of the vehicle, resulting in the above complaint. This is not a fault with the parking system, however, an alternative system strategy is available so that the system operation is canceled when the vehicle speed is above 10mph (16kph) and will not operate again until the vehicle speed is below 10mph (16kph) and the fascia front parking aid switch is selected (or until a forward gear is selected following reverse gear selection during parking).
Action: On a customer concern basis only regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew the parking aid system control module. The new system operation must be explained to the customer.
