FYI tyre options culled from another forum

Bridgestone SA has come to the rescue of LR Disco 3 and Range Rover owners. They have now made the Firestone Destination AT available in the RSA in 17", 18" and 20" sizes. Also the MT in 18". Previously these were available only up to 16".

All new LR vehicles landed on our shores, are fitted in the UK with nothing more than Highway Terrains. Replacing D3 tyres have been an endless nightmare, as both Coopers and BFG's, are prone to cracking and lugs breaking off - well documented on this Forum. Destinations are manufactured with so-called LL Carbon which helps improved tyre wear and resistance to cracking.

Nearly every second farmer in the Klein Karoo fits Destination AT's to their farm bakkies for their ruggedness and high mileage offered. Our area is mountainous and rocky, and when it does rain, muddy terrain is the order of the day.

On good advice I recently fitted my 2009 Disco 3 V8 with the Firestone Destination A/T 265/60 R 18. They are in line with LR warranty specs.

I have covered a few thousand kms on them already, and would seriously recommend them. I have found vastly improved roadholding compared to the Pirelli Scorpions originally fitted. The mountain passes around Oudtshoorn are now a pleasure to tackle at the speed limit and beyond. The vastly improved traction on steep, rocky inclines off-road is worth a mention. So too the traction, braking and overall roadholding in the rain on slippery surfaces. On tar the Destinations offer an extremely quiet and comfortable ride.

What finally convinced me, was the experience of my cousin. He's done 93 000 kms on a set of Destinations fitted to his Isuzu. He recons he will do another 30k on them. Its worth mentioning that in the USA, the Destinations carry a 50 000 mile (80 000 kms) warranty.

I have not experienced any cracking or lugs breaking off on my BFGs in more than 100000km (92000km on the first set with 5mm tread left) and 17000km on current set.

I don't see how they have come to the rescue of FFRR owners either Sad

I want to keep the Continentals on the 20" wheels, so MTR's are probably my only option in 19"

if you need an opinion I can give you mine Smile

If something works on an Isuzu, what are the chances that it will work on a Disco?

I did get casing distorting on 235/70/16 on my D1 after 55000 miles on 2 tyres, making them unsafe, still had some miles left. This mainly on good uk roads/ pavements/ side walks some offroad. I like the size 265/60/18 how does the 5/spare fit under the car, much side wall/profile gain over 255/60/18? Did you consider 255/70/18, speed rating s according to firestone website, should be better offroad higher profile?

Hi all,

I fitted 4x265/60/18 Firestone Destinations before my trip to East London (the one in SA, not the small town in the UK) and all that I can say is that I'm hugely impressed - dry handling great, wet handling fantastic and on the little bit of offroad that I did the tyres did not disappoint.

Regards and all the best for 2011 !

I take it one can't run with a spare of 255x60x18 if one fits F?S Destinations in size 265x65x18? In Durban I'm told that 18" Destinations are not available in this country??

Heine, where did you get yours from, and at what price?
