Good deal on Extended Warranty - with warranty direct ?

Hi, have recently bought a 2008 HSE with 84k full service history.
Looking for extended warranty - been offered thru Warranty Direct - Extra Care with no betterment - inc Airbags, Emissions - In Car Entertainment - 2 year cover for £1325 seems reasonable - what do you guys think ?
Runs along side my existing 3 month dealer warranty for 27 months total....
Cheers, Steve

About what I paid 18 months ago for 2 years, on an 06er with 90k on the clock. They don't see to be ammeanable to haggling as they used to. Make sure that is man dealer rates if that's what you need. One alternative is see if there is anything extra that you can add & try the "throw that in and you have the deal" approach.

Thanks for the reply !
It is with main dealer rates - local dealers rate is £200 less - so £1125 - but I think it's worth having the option to use the main dealer - although the local dealer I bought the Disco from seems very clued up on Land Rovers - he drives a FFRR Supercharged !
I suppose £55 per month is worth it for peace of mind... Thumbs Up

I think I've got them down as far as they are going to go....
Apart from waiting, any tips on getting them down further ?

Hi
My dealer warranty runs out on my 08MY XS soon and am looking to replace, it seems that opinions differ on the benefit of extended warranty but I like the idea of peace of mind
Warranty Direct are favourite at the moment, the car is now 6years old and has done 55k
I intend to phone them and then start the haggling process, any tips that have worked to reduce the initial quote?
I will of course tell them I intend to shop around and that there price is expensive but apart from that has anyone had success in reducing the premium
Any help muchly appreciated Smile

I took out extended warranty yesterday with Warrant Direct, I got:

Extra Care Policy with Main Dealer labour rates of £200 + VAT Per Hour
No betterment - i.e. they pay 100 % of parts and labour
Extra cover for Airbags & Emissions - and In Car Entertainment ( Sat Nav & Audio )
Covers - Engine, Gearbox & Suspension etc
24K Miles P/A
£50 Excess

Wear & Tear cover after 90 days -

My dealers' warranty runs for 3 months - and this policy will start when this expires.

Paid £1275 - they had come down quite a lot from original quote, but wouldn't budge any further.

My D3 HSE is just 6 years old with 84K, full service history...

Hope this helps !

As I understand it, if you are coming straight from a warranty then the 90 day exclusion on wear & tear doesn't count. Thumbs Up

One thing to be aware of is that the £50 excess will be applied to every single item, not just once per claim. So, for example, if you have two wishbones go, that will be £100 deducted from your claim, not £50. ARB bushes at the same time? That's another £50 deduction. etc etc.

If you manage to get no betterment that's not so bad, but if like me WD are only paying 50% of parts it can reduce the amount you get back on a claim almost to the point of not being worth it.

Also, remember that 90 day wear and tear exclusion - I made the mistake of booking my car in to be checked for a steering wheel wobble at around the 85 day mark. As a result I got into a battle with WD, with my Indie arguing that it wasn't a wear and tear failure vs WD arguing that it was. Lost the battle in the end and it cost me over £650. If I'd waited a few days longer before booking the car in it might have been a different story.

All that said, on balance I do feel it's worth having because a) you will almost certainly get something back as few Discos go a full year without some failure of some sort and b) it gives some peace of mind that if a really costly item goes you aren't gonna have to find the full cost yourself.

Oh, one more thought (for RAW1's benefit), don't know if they are still doing this but when I took my policy out they were offering 13 month's for the price of 12.

Sorry for the long post - hope it helps Thumbs Up

Good thinking re 13 for 12, when I bought the 24 month policy I got 25 months cover. Some peeps reported getting 3 years cover and mileage up to 160k (that mileage was with an existing policy ISTR), will try for that on renewal in the summer.

I went down the same route last month and after declining the deal they rang back a few days later with a better deal which I accepted. On reading the policy doc I decided that the money would be better spent on regular maintenance. The 3 month initial period ruled out wear and tear and the betterment clause was a problem for me. A careful read of the policy doc highlighted many common issues that would not be adequately covered. The additional servicing costs (vat reg garage) was also an issue for me as I like to do a lot myself so overall it was quite expensive "peace of mind"
I believe WD have a good reputation.
I just keep reminding myself that 99% of forum posts are people with problems ....... not seen many "no problems this year" posts.

My WD experience this month on a new ish policy. My08 just failed an MOT due to suspension problems (bushes and arms). £750 minus excess all sorted. Process a bit slow but professional and met my hopes/expectations. A good news WD story.

I had a new compressor fitted to my 2010 D4 HSE a few weeks ago.

No quibbles with me at all, however the Indie I use, they are friends who play Offroad in the same Club, told me he had long phone calls to get authority, he admits he hates Warranty Companies in general and ups his rates to compensate!

I was paid out the next week less the £50 excess so I'm already £££ in Thumbs Up

Stew,
