'Grinding or grating noise
I have what could be described as either a grinding or a grating noise coming from somewhere in the rear (hard to pin-point, think it is centre or near-side). Starts around 10MPH and is audible up to around 30 - 40 MPH when I think the road noise masks it out. The noise does not change pitch or volume with speed.
Any ideas?
It was doing it before Christmas when it went for its final service before warranty ran out; have done 4k miles since then, including French Alps and back but can't recall whether the noise was still there when I got the car back.11 HSE Santorini Black

Rear diff (not the locking eDiff).
Had mine done and CG has also had it done.
Your symptoms describe what I had almost exactly.

I was told the same when they replaced the rear diff but grinding is still there in 2nd, and there was nothing like that when we got the car, comes from what I think more the gear box area than the diff
any manual users have something like it?

Well, giving ther dealers a ring tomorrow, and will be arguing the fact that Iam not paying as I pointed it out to them (in writing) when it went in for its service when it was in warranty.11 HSE Santorini Black
As Si said rear diff - I think mines going again.

Its it louder if the 3rd row seats are up ? Have someone sit in the 3rd row and listen carefully to the sound... to even better, have someone drive the D3 and YOU listen. You know the exact noise you are hearing so it will be easier to spot.
Dealer should have some 'chassis ears) that they can use to trace the source too.

Just took my 08 in this morning with the same symptoms at 54,000 miles, so I'm hoping it's not the diff... 08 LR3 SE V8 - 02 D2 SE7 V8

Urm that may be optimistic I had my rear diff diagnosed as faulty early in December............Its only gone in today now the part has finally arrived
I would describe my symptoms more like a cylindrical noise than a grinding though

Cylindrical, grinding, very difficult to describe.
Full cost if not covered by the warranty is around £1k - £1.2k. I think a fair bit of it is labour though.11 HSE Santorini Black
I got the call from the dealership - they are contacting LRNA today as it's a few thousand miles out of US warranty
Will report back when I hear
Part of me want the noise to still be there when I pick the car up in the morning and for LR to have to "cough" for a front diff too
Why do Land Rover's suffer with diff problems?

1) coating on the inside of the diff is coming off, contaminating the diff oil, causing wear and then failure
2) diff leaks oil, causing wear, leading to diff failure
LR treat them almost as sealed units - oil change schedule is 100,000 miles I believe!08 LR3 SE V8 - 02 D2 SE7 V8
