High Beam Assist

I've searched the website and manual but can't find an answer to my blinding question.

The high beam assist does not always detect the rear red lights of the cars I am following and, on occasion, blinds oncoming traffic as it's slow to detect them approaching. The dealer said the menu option for the UK should be set to "right" as oncoming vehicles are approaching from that direction but I'm wondering if this should be set to left i.e. the side I'm traveling. I would just like a second opinion if anyone can help.

Thanks,

Paul

I will be tracking the answer to your question.

I find that it is often too slow to react on shallow bends and with old style headlights. Never really had any problem with tail lights.

Sometimes they dont go off quickly enough so I flick to take them off high beam and just as I do that they drop and I end up flashing the other car. I can imagine the driver sitting there muttering at my incompetence when its actually the car Confused

mine does the same - it seems OK when car aproach from front or right hand side. but if i'm going around a left hand bend it is very slow to react and sometimes doesnt react at all.

In the manual is says something like "This system is to be regarded as a driving aid and that driver intervention is sometimed required" or something similar.

I switched it off the day we got the car, totally useless!

I find it quite good 95% of the time. it just gets confused now and again.

you still have to "think" and be prepared to turn the auto lights off if you feel it doesnt react quickly enough

+ 1. It's an aid and doesn't pretend to be anything else so what's the issue?

OK thanks for the reply's guys. I assume this option is set to the right in your D4's?

I'll leave it on for a while and see how it goes.

I don't bother using mine anymore as I've always got to end up intervening. I'd have rather they kept the adaptives as standard rather than this gimmick!

The issue is that it isn't an aid if you have to intervene all the Censored time!

Yeah I agree, had it on my last Merc (useless too). Also going in my "useless" bin I propose the following "features":

"Auto dimming" mirrors
"Automatic" wipers
Keyless go
Programme wash wipe / one last wipe
Radios that get louder as you drive faster
"Heated" screen wash hahahahahaha still frozen after two weeks
"Auto" lights that don't come on when it's peeing with rain, or foggy, or just plain dark
LR SatNav that thinks misrouting you by design is hilarious
"One touch" windows that only do that in one direction (usually down)

Maybe I'm just effing grumpy. Certainly seems that way...

All imho of course. Your views?

I was determined to persevere with it cos I had paid for it and I kept it on for a good wee while but eventually I figured all the cars in the neighbourhood were going to get Censored -off with that Censored -ing driver in the Blue Disco that never dips its lights in time, so I gave up to save us all a bad name.

If you're on motorways and major roads with few corners it works fine but where a lot of blind corners are concerned it falls over. ie when you need it most, it works least. I'm sure we could start a thread with that as its title.

Mine works OK 99% of the time and the area I live, Romney Marsh is full of bends and twisty roads. Even reacts to driving into tons where there are street lights. Thumbs Up
