The fuses checked are glove box, 52, 53, 58. All are good. Why on earth would the stereo/SAT NAV, Phone just go dead?

there have been posts about blocked sunroof drains causing the water (from car washing?) to pour onto the dash in the region of the sat nav. if there is power, but no sound it might be one of the components not working, e.g. phone / amp / head unit / sat nav disc thing under / screen..... if anyone unit pops, the fibre optic ring is broken and no music / commands get from one box to the next. - unplug the orange twin plug and look for red lights.... 2007 software upgrade (thanks Wiggs and Geoff) with 3 flash indicators, follow me home reverse lights, fog with side lights & canadian driving lights

Thanks for your reply.
Did not notice any water in that area - vacuumed inside after washing and there was nothing there then

ummm, yes orange twin plug. ok, what I meant it that the bus sends optical signals from one device to the next using thick orange "cable". each device has an in and out combined into one plug. so, if you have power, but no sound, it may be possible to work out which device is not working by seeing which device is receiving the red flashing light on the bus, but not transmitting..... easiest one to get to is the HK amp under the driver's seat - put it forwards and up to see...... I believe, but may misunderstand, that Guava between Guildford and Godalming are able to diagnose on this at sensible prices vis a vis main dealer pricing that is. D3 2.7 TDv6 HSE, 2005 in silver.

Hey Rocket did you get any further with your problem? Mine died last night after having been intermittent for a few weeks, resetting itself on the move... Switched off ignition and took out keys following which the radio reset itself, came on quietly and none of the buttons worked - after about thirty seconds of button pressing and locking/unlocking the car the whole lot went dead and has been blank ever since
Took it to an independant who reckons power available but unit not responding - advised to take it to LR to be sure, but reckons needs a new radio/cd/gps unit - ouch!
Gonna contact TLO tomorrow when he is in the office but has anybody replaced this and have any idea on pricing...? I already know its gonna be a bit of a TDV6 HSE AUTO

What the.... its fixed (I hope ) !!!
I finally took extra time to go through all the threads on this bit of the forum and discovered it was a regular problem as always! - I just went straight to the independant (2-3 minutes away) who thought it was knackered!
Found the disconnect battery solution from Wiggs to somebody else - and it worked... Off to tell independant tomorrow - hope its still working! Thanks Wiggs et al... fingers crossed! TDV6 HSE AUTO

Hi,
Well done for getting yours going!
What did you do - mine is still not working no power at all.
Took it to the dealer - they did a hard reset of the system and still not working. The dealer said I need to book it in so they can look into it - ouch...
Please tell me what you did - no music in the disco for a long time now....
I double checked the fuses and disconnected the battery for 2 hours but it still doesn't work. Also did another hard reset this morning and still not working. D3 HSE TDV6 '06

Hi Rocket.
Sorry that yours still isnt working . Mine started playing up after we had a minor repair to the back left corner - SWMBO managed to reverse it into an invisible metal staircase, could have happened to anyone.
It came back having been major valeted and washed, but the fault started almost straight away. The body shop opened it up to show me no damage to the cabling at the back so I thought maybe a bit of over zealous vacuuming might have damaged a connector under a seat or something ? All unplugged and replugged but no luck. Posted in the D3 General Forum but no replies. Then it gave up and so did I after checking fuses etc.
Only after Indie said it was prob knackered did I decide to read everything on the Electronics forum (search facility not very good). Several reports of this kind of thing and one solution was the 'disconnect battery and leave it for 10 minutes' thing - which I know you have tried... For me it worked - it went from completely dead to 'back to normal'. So far - a week later - its been problem free...
Sorry this isnt going to be of any help - good luck at the dealer.
Cheers TDV6 HSE AUTO

Lucky you - well done!
Maybe that is what has happened to ours - I have disturbed a cabled when vacuuming.
Can anyone give me any pointers on which cables to check/unplug?
Do I need to do this in steps:
unplug are reconnect system followed by battery disconnect and hard reset?
Argggghhhh. What a pain..

Do a hard reset
Open bonnet ...keys out of the car ..wait for red park break light to go out ...disconnect battery .
Join the battery leads ( NOT THE BATTERY ) for about 20 seconds ...recconect battery leads to battery and see if it cures any thing
Did you check the fuseable link ? as in not just look at it , but test it .
All the stuff that has stopped working on yours all come from that fuseable link G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
