Insurance Claim - Optional Extras Fitted for True Value
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone provide me with a TOPIX report or build list ‘ spec for my car which has been declared a total loss???
The insurance company have asked for an email build sheet and will not accept pictures
We have been given a valuation for a 2008 Discovery 3 but believe this valuation to be well under what we would need to spend on an equivalent car with the extras we have.
Our car is a 2008 Land Rover Discovery 3 HSE Auto in Stornaway Grey 120,000 miles
VIN No:SALLAAA139A495351
Factory fitted extras include:
Rear Seat Entertainment
Rear Air Conditioning
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Piano Black Veneer
Any help or advice greatly appreciated

For D3, fortunately, you can’t get the build configuration on TOPIx.
You could try asking JLR directly.
FWIW, insurance companies tend to try to lowball the first offer… at least here.

It's 14 years old ...any extras are going to be fairly academic tbh .... pounds rather than hundreds or thousands21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

after watching panorama this week not sure if a 14 year old car would fall into that scenario.
secondhand and new cars it appears are going thro the roof...this scenario may affect your price...have you tried WBAC for reference ?......other than that JLR customer service or a claims expert
what price you expecting ?

Regardless of what you are expecting I can guarantee you will not get its true value, they tend to use Parker’s auction guide for reference not forecourt price, ask me how I know, and her(my wife) protected no claims bonus was hit
How badly was your Disco damaged?- if it’s repairable you may be able to “buy it back” very cheap It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Aren’t you meant to declare any extras above and beyond the model spec to the insurance company. If you don’t, it will be their get out.

You only have to declare anything that WASN'T fitted by the factory (hence them wanting the build sheet), so if the car came supplied with it from new then it's part of "the spec" for that vehicle and needs to be factored in..I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

When I wanted to check the spec of my D4 I just went into the Stealer and they provided me with a warranty printout which included the features and trim list.

Alternatively when I did my claim I picked three adverts from the selling media with comparable condition mileage etc to show that they were miles out regardless of what Parker’s stated… and keep rejecting their offers..
Was offered the paltry sum of £1250 for our FL2 initially then a further couple of offers.. eventually got £6500 for it although it was still worth more to me….
Suggest that you will go to the Ombudsman over it.. regardless of the result the insurance company have to pay the Ombudsman for each complaint made against them ( which is how they help fund themselves) and they don’t want the Ombudsman to add to their dossier!

My son had his 10 year old VW Up! written off after an accident. Initial offer was £3800 (same as wbac trade value)
After a bit of research looking at same model cars for sale on the dealer market, the cheapest equivalent with similar spec and mileage was £5000.
After providing this evidence, the loss adjuster called my son and agreed to payout £5k.
His was a no fault 3rd party claim, although I don’t think that makes a difference.

Thanks for all your help - been to local dealership as advised and true enough they printed the spec as a warranty printing document.
Will also attach some adverts showing similar miles and current prices and see what happens.
