Just had quote from NFU - £556 - with £100 excess (taking excess to £500, brought quote down to £425.44. Privilege are quoting £309 + £21 for legal assistance. So NFU not really competitive price wise for us

NFU are generally a rural insurer and I think keep their premiums down (depending on where you are) by asking for more from city / towny folk. But they do include off road cover as they actually are one of the few that understand what a LR is and what people use them for.
If your never going to head off road, you can get some very good deals from most insurers.
Its one of the few benefits of not living in a large town / city these days.
