as per the title has anybody got an easy way apart from using a fm transmitter?

Buy the LR kit, not the easiest or cheapest but simple enough to fit and the best solution The End

Fitting guide is on http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com (Look at the Audio Connectivity Module fitting instructions under I.C.E./Technology). I'm pretty sure it works with all IHU types so you should be fine with the base one. If you're happy to fit it yourself best price will be from Nick @ Yeovil The End

Spoke to Nick last week, must have been Thursday, and he told us that LR have just released the part number for a new kit that works with EVERY iPod. The older version only worked with the classic and old style nano I think! Ben

What Slimer says....the LR is probably not the cheapest, but it works a treat. I recommend it 
LR updated the part number a few months ago to make the kit compatible with all of the FL2 stereos as well as already supported D3/RRS ones. I think it just includes an extra wiring loom (unused in the case of the D3).
It could be worth checking with Nick - I'm guessing that the new kit that Maverick mentions could come with a new cradle adaptor for the latest iPods/iPhone, but I don't think there's been any mention of it on here... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Forgot to say, no drilling the dash with the new kit! There's no cradle. I think they have also slightly simplified the the way you wire it up! Ben

can i ask why you would not want to use an FM transmitter? I just use the Griffin Roadtrip, it does everything I need. It holds the IPOD secure, charges it, and the sound is crystal clear with zero static. I just don't really see the benefit of going for a LR kit etc, or am I missing something?

have you an AUX connector in the back of the centre console? easiest solution and a damn sight cheaper than buying the LR ipod thingy

The integrated kit works with track up down etc, which if you have steering wheel controls is handy, this is as I understand it - not fitted one yet still thinking about it - Nick has a good price. Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

I have fitted the Harmon K. Drive+play connected to the aux input (patched into by drivers footwell thanks to wiigs post) I have mounted the screen on the dash drivers side and it stays in place with the provided sticky pad so no drilling required. I then mounted the control on the flat plastic trim behind the handbrake lever and fed the wire under the center console to the brain unit which i slotted in behind the NS air vent. I then drilled a 10mm hole into the top glove box at the back for the ipod lead.
This charges and controls my ipod gives me an easy to view display and easy to use control. You can pick up the HK D+P on fleebay for £50.00ish quid.
The other advantage is you can leave the ipod in the car without it being on display.
On the back of the brain unit there is an aux in so you can still have anthoer device (in case vhf radio as i am a coastguard) so it works out as quite a flexible solution.
I will upload some photos when i get home as i am away on business at the moment. You can never have too many toys...
