I meant for public use. I have no doubt that they did it for military purposes. I imagine they even mapped my back garden knowing the Americans.

Surely they have their own maps ? How else would they be able to find their way round ?

In Russia there are still some villages that are of no name.

10forcash wrote:completely the opposite is true there, the mapping is just as, if not more accurate, it is not available publicly due to licencing concerns - i.e. the proliferation of software copyright theft in eastern europe and that the US government class most software as a 'weapon' and therefore restricted in its export. as was the case with the PGP (encryption) software
... a non - googled answer BN, if you read my post, so did I.... the US export laws are very strange at times. There are un-named villages and hamlets on the UK & EU mapping, I wouldn't expect the rest of the world to be any different.

Well in the mean time i get information from the main importeur in Prague: he told me that the map of all these former eastern countries are ready BUT that indeed it's a lincense problem... in other words Land Rover should pay to get these license in odre to "unlock"the mapping of Czech Republic etc...
I paid more then 100.000 Czeck Koruna for the NAV ( ca. 2.850 Euro) but ok i could not let it go. loooooooove watching the 4wd info , and anyhow i am land rover freak and the company (lease car) pays the bill 8)
Once more thanks all for your Supersonic response... keep posted

Short message from prague, sunny day, car more then ok, almost 3000 km already,
Problem report minor:
windshield motor will be changed next week, too much noise.
I bought instead of original option LR Satnav the VDO DVD system 5700 with 7 inches screen, works great mainly for me in Czech Republic, the TeleAtlas maps are covering more then 85 percent of CZ.
By the way about buying a Lexus or LR3: no comments....

JMG wrote:Hi there, just a fast question:
Will the NAV system willl be also working for Easten Europe countries, like the Czech Republic? I just order a LRS HSE but the dealer or the importeur in Prague are not that clead about the Navtech license for these countries...
I just sold my old disco 1 TDI from 97, feel bit of sad after all these years...
Hi JMG,
I am solving the same question and it seems LR will never cover this country/region due to insufficient disco owners with a navigation system.
A big disappointment!

ther are some Russian military maps around and they are very accurate, but translatinf them to the D3s sat nave would be difficult. An aftermarket one would be easier to convert a map format for. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Greetings back from a stormy -weatherwise and political- Bavaria. Is that the Chiemsee in your picture?
I do think that D3s are becoming more common here (since I started taking interest about a year ago). As I reported a week or two back in another post, http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic8466.html , I saw 4 one day on a visit to St. Johann.

Quote: the Gulf Coast of Alabama
Ah, I was a little way off! And I thought I had recognised it
I survived the storm without damage but it was certainly noisy enough. It was never all that windy while I was driving and, despite its height, the D3 seemed very stable on the road.
