It’s time. My Disco is dying. What car next?
Ok after 15 years and 120000 miles of amazing motoring my disco 3 days are drawing in. The gremlins are getting in and it’s time to pick a new car.
This is tough because I’ve never had a day I didn’t like my car. I bloody love it in fact but I’ve choices to make.
Your help please ladies and gents. I want to stick with the brand as I don’t think I’d be happy in anything else so which car next.
A new shape discovery 3.0 luxury or a Range Rover Sport 4.4 tdv8.
I’ve about 32k to shop with. Which car is best.Narpy Grill, tinted windows, Smooth leather wheel (TLO Group buy), ACM fitted (thanks TLO), Rear door loom and Row 2 & 3 audio switch upgrade, RRS 20" wheel change, 285 Cooper LTZ's Sat Nav Mod (until I get a Faultmate upgrade), Front & Rear lamp guards. 4x4 screen now switched on - Woody32, Follow me home reverse lights - woody32, Auto release EPB - Woody32. Off Road Navigation - Woody32. Remap + EGR's switched off. Full chassis clean and Waxoyl.

If you mean a D4, go for it, if you mean a D5, I’d think twice especially as you’ll not get one for the money you have to spend.

For that money I would buy the latest, lowest mileage D4 you can find and keep the balance of cash aside to keep it on the road. There are still some Approves Used ones with warranties available.
There's nothing out there that matches the D4 design for comfort, practicality etc. Within that budget anyway.2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...
2014 BMW 435d convertible. Bought July 2021. 58,000 miles and counting...
2005 Discovery 3 HSE Auto. Bought Feb 2019. 169,000 miles and counting...
2009 Freelander 2 XS Manual. Bought Sep 2013. SOLD Aug 2021 (already regretted!)
I entirely agree buy the latest, lowest mileage D4 you can find. The last Landmarks have a good specification.

If you want to stay with the brand then a D4 ULEZ compliant car.
If you're more imaginative then the XC90 is extremely good and will do 90% of what a D4 / D5 will do with significantly better reliability and dealer network. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

Not always, my friends bought a new XC90 about 6 months ago and it's gone into 'Limp Mode' at least many times! The most scary was in the outside lane of a 'smart' motorway! It's along way to the refuge at less than a 3rd of the average speed of the rest of the traffic Cheers

I've owned 2 D3 and D4, all of which had issues. I also have a 2020 XC90 with 27k on the clock (owned from new) that has never missed a beat with exceptional dealer service. I also have a brand new Defender less that 4 weeks old that had LRA out in the first week, that keeps throwing up red triangle restricted power (that can be really exciting / scary on a French and Italian motorway) and yellow brake warnings. It's also got a transmission rumble and does weird gear changes. I'm also dealing with the usual crap LR dealer customer service.
All cars have faults but at the moment the XC90 is well ahead as is their dealer service. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Ironically my old D4 was the only LR I’ve owned since my D2 that hadn’t put a foot wrong. Unfortunately she heard me say that out loud so she had to go!
