Exactly.

On the D3 and 6 speed D4, you could quickly flick the lever to the right to select S. Far simpler, safer and intuitive.

Or leave the dial alone and use the paddles? ( This a sort of D5 forum! ) Thumbs Up

There is a setup option to enable paddles in Drive mode as well as Sports mode. Thumbs Up

Doesn’t overcome the chance of accidentally finding P or N when seeking R though.

You could do that with a stick tbh.

When I first had a rotary knob on my 2012 D4 i very occasionally selected something I didn’t want, mostly because I wasn’t aware or not looking, but after 7 years, I am struggling to think of the last time that happened, probably 6.5 years ago.

So why are JLR not staying with the “knob” on new models?

Asking the wrong person! - Haven’t a clue, why did they turn out a Disco with a strange backside? There’s a 1001 things on all the various models of Discos that don’t make much sense.

I very much doubt it was market led, probably they had a stockpile of old gear sticks left over from the D3/4. Whistle

I think it’s very much market led, as the “knob” was a bit of a USP for JLR.

Here’s the stick on the 2019 Evoque I had for a week back in August.

There’s a button on the back of it that you press to operate it. Simple and intuitive. Looks okay as well IMO. 👍
