Thanks for that info. I would hope to do a bit more than Strasberg on my first day, somewhere around the 600 mile stretch, putting me somewhere around Austria I would think.
I have done long stretches in the D4 but that was in the Summer so it gave me more daylight and more confidence with the road conditions.
At the moment it is something I am planning and also to give me something to look forward to.
Croatia has a fantastic number of places of interest, I tend to stay inland now, Mountains, Forests and streams and modern small towns. The food and accommodation is such good value too.
Before the 'War' I spent a few holidays in the coastal areas, landing in Pula and travelling up the coast to Novigrad, hiring a car and exploring inland from there.
I fell in love with the Forests, streams and simple way of life of some of the people we met. Things are a lot more modern now due to their joining the EU.
Yes, Croatia has something for everybody both City, monuments, history and colour !

That's the sort of scenery I enjoy, could sit there all day and enjoy it.
There are water falls like that in some of the most unexpected places and lakes all over the place.
I spend quite a lot of time in the Slovenia area of Croatia and visit the Papuk Mountains, a beautiful place with a 'Hotel' Jasovac at the top with ponds, lakes and picnic areas too.
I am surprised that particular area isn't advertised more but then if it was it would probably spoil it for me.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, it is definitely a beautiful country and I find the people very friendly too. It is hard to believe what went on during their 'war' there are still signs of it in some of the isolated places.
I am going to a place called Jelacica, Bana Josipa near the Okucani region, only about two/three hours SE of Zagreb. I am joining a group of Irish and staying in a Hunting lodge and going into the mountain area to look for wild Boar.
Then back again in January but visiting another place called Daruvar, about three hours NE of Zagreb.
It is great fun and we eat a lot of the local food which is primarily wild Boar or Venison, due to the fact that vegetables are difficult to grow due to the wild boar visiting during the night and decimating large areas in double quick time. Most small gardens have very strong iron fences and all have dogs that roam the enclosures.
Yes where I visit is still pretty primitive and very interesting.
