Judder in all gears when accel. Gearbox clutch? *SOLVED*

Drove 2500Km to south Portugal and noticed a heavy judder when accelarating or going ophill. This would occur at any given speed-revs but always when it went down in speed-revs. Also I could see the revs surging a little bit.
When I set the auto gear box to manual and went back 1 gear, so more revs, the judder would go away.

I had a mega flush 30000Km back. At that time I only had a slight judder at a certain rev. This feels completely different.

Anybody a clue? Auto gearbox or something else?

I spoke to a gearbox specialist who said that probably the clutch was slipping. He thinks that the "valveblock" and some box must be replaced. Is that the same thing as the recon torque converter Conner is talking about?

Update: Another opinion.

Just spoke to a very experienced, ZF recommended, gearbox specialist. He was 95% sure that it wasn't a gearbox problem but a engine problem and most likely a dirty turbo drain hose/pipe (bad translation??)

Anybody a clue if this might be the case??

Valvebody is th part of the gearbox that controls the gear change. Cheaper to replace this than a complete gearbox if it is banging into gears etc...Could be a gearbox ECU that he was referring to change as well

cheers

Narrowing down the causes. Where is the turbo exhaust??

It's not banging into gears and only judders when accelerating fast. Going slow there is no problem at all.

Also, the FZ gearbox expert told me that the judder should be the there around 2500rpm as well when parked.
So I just tested it and he was spot on. At 2500rpm it's juddering not as heavy when driving but still there.

So does anyone know where to locate this turbo exhaust/pipe/hose he was talking about??

My disco is also juddering when accellerating or going uphill, I took it into a Land Rover dealership and they told me I need a new gearbox. I'm sure it's not that serious that the whole gearbox needs replacing!!

Do a ATF flush first. They box needs it at about 100.000km.
Mine is doing the same and extended warranty is being difficult about repairing the box even. I am trying a flush first.

My problems have gone with changing the Intercooler hose.
No more juddering, black smoke, revs surging and power loss.

Probably it delaminated first cause I checked the hose before. Noticed a big rip early this week.
Installed a nice bleu B.A.S. hose and all is running smooth. The Mr. Green is back on my face.

Nice one Renton Thumbs Up

The only thing that leaves me puzzled is that you didn't mention any black smoke or power loss in the original fault.....this would have pointed towards the intercooler hose as a prime suspect nearly two months ago.....

At least it shows that the ZF specialist was spot on Thumbs Up I assume that you told him about the smoke and power loss though otherwise, from the symptoms, as Caver said it sounded just like contaminated/worn gearbox oil....

The thing is that the power loss and black smoke just started recently.
The juddering and surging revs started when I drove to Portugal. Drove 4000Km without power loss or black smoke.
The power loss and black smoke is just something of the last weeks.

OK.....cheers Renton Thumbs Up

When you say the revs were surging, did it feel like the auto-box was slipping by any chance?

Initially I though it was the auto box slipping. I never had that problem so actually don't know how that really feels.

The original symptoms could be those of a worn convertor lockup clutch lined disc. Idea
