Auto Transmission Grade of Oil |
|
I know there are shed loads of threads on gearbox oil and grades but my question is quite specific. I am on the verge of replacing my oil with a Dexron VI grade oil. The oild grade for our auto trannys is TE-ML 11 which is a ZF auto gear box grade.
What I have been told is that
Dexron II = TE-ML 11A Passenger Cars
Dexron III = TE-ML 11B Commercial Vehicles
Dexron VI supercedes II & III so it should be good to put in our Trannys?
Does anyone in the know NOT agree with this? 1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

The correct fluid to use in the ZF6HP26 box is Shell 1375.4 - this is what LR sell as ATF fluid at an astonishing £24 a litre
There are a few alternatives which will meet the same specification as the Shell fluid, such as Texaco 402, and Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle ATF fluid, although these can be difficult to obtain.
These all exceed the JASO-1A and Dexron 111 specifications
So . . on this basis ANY fluid that meets (or exceeds) Dexron 111 (Dexron 4 for instance) will be absolutely fine
Although LR will tell you that the auto box is 'sealed for life' or 150k miles before it needs any kind of service.
I think we all know better than that Never get mad - get even !!
