D5/newer Range Rover thing im afraid - all our new LR's have it - i know our d5 actually cools, which i was impressed with on Saturday - i think the Evoque only blows cool air (although that was good enough in the past) the RRS also cools. Not used it in such heat before to be fair
Basically its turning on the engine and running the HVAC to get the car to a temperature, in winter thats warm...but as mentioned i now use it to cool - Saturday it was sitting happy at 18 degrees for 20 minutes, then i re-ran for another 20...its a shame you cant just set a time outside of the default.Mike

Indeed, u would have thought being able to input what ever time u wished
So assume as there’s the remote for the FBH it would of been advantageous of having it to cool as well via a remote / timer before getting in the vehicle

D4 will only cool to the ambient temp, so if it's 25oC outside then that's what you'll get....D5 and other models run the engine with the doors locked (where legal), so can chill as far down as 16oC pre entry 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Thks so much for the explanation
So assume with the D5 and u have the engine running ,for it to be legal do I assume then ur not allowed to leave it unattended , as in eye sight , apologises for the daft question
Also seen some alarm systems that are supposed to start the engine from the remote control

You can only leave it running unattended off the highway in the UK 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Dogs die in cars that are stuck in traffic jams too. I'm sure I've see 'Dogs die in hot cars' displayed on motorway matrix signs recently?
Don't quote me on this, but if a dog is in extreme distress and/or immediate risk of death, it would be reasonable to break into the car to save it. The owner could pursue you for the costs of repairing the glass, but in doing so they would have to admit to being a dog-torturer.

Am on slightly thin ice here, but surely certainly motoring laws apply to where the public have the right of access to?
i.e. public/supermarket car parks etc.
If I remember correctly an Australian chef demonstrated cooking a joint of meat in a car parked in direct sunshine.
Whilst there are various window vents available which assist in ventilation they do not make it safe to leave a baby or an animal in a car parked in sunshine.

Yes you are right Brendan, although the definition of a road \ public place can vary in case law. The context I was aiming for is probably your own drive tbh.

I think its perfectly fine to leave the engine running anywhere.
Our response vehicles do it etc.
The car is perfectly safe, there are no legal issues, etc - anyway - think it through practically - whats the real problem? (also apply it to those that start their car and go in during the winter)
If you got in (which you cant), the car can't drive it, you cant move it. Gear knob remains down, its in park, no smart key etc - you cant even unlock it as its still deadlocked etc size of the engine makes it no different to a FBH for example.
If you tried to do do that with say an ambulance (have you seen them running?) the moment you engage the clutch or drive the engine turns off. Our Incident support vehicle does exactly the same.
In the states over years ive seen people in all the hot states leave pets in their cars with the engine running the AC
Net results - no problems and it great to keep me, dogs, even the shopping cool on hot days...just like defrosting your car.Mike
