Just got a flat....which tyre to go for?!?

I posted my first thread in weeks this morning (on General - "Out of my depth"), just been out on the car, parked it and got an instant flat - broken glass in the parking bay. Big Cry

So here's my next question of the day!!!

I've only had the car a month, and it's on Pirelli Scorpion Zero's at the moment. The front two are ok for a while yet (probably a year by the look of it) but the rear two are VERY close to limit. "Luckily" it's a rear one that got punctured, but I was thinking of replacing with something a little 'meatier'. The vast majority of my driving will be on road, but I will be doing the odd "play day" or buzzing about in fields etc.. I had read good things here about the Goodyear MT/R. Just got a price but was advised that they are an 'S' rating, so good for 118mph, while the Pirellis are 'V' rating good for 150mph. The 'S' rating is fine for me, BUT should I mix these tyres (I'd obviously bite the bullet and buy two MT/Rs for the rear at the same time).

TIA
 I want that one...

A lot of us have replaced the 19inch wheels for 17inch and run Cooper STs and STTs 245/75 R17s

others run the 255/55 R19MTrs

Not had the MTR but the 17 inch Coopers are excellant (13mm tread and my last set lasted for 45,000 miles at a cost of £90 per tyre fitted. Thumbs Up

But if you do get the MT/R's now, they'll give you a discount (surely) off the complete set.
I keep my MTR's on all the time now, done 11k & probably at least another 20K to go. Thumbs Up

sjm, Ken, on this forum, has been dropping very subtle (Whistle) hints that he has a new set of MTRs for sale, may be worth a PM to see if he still has them. Thumbs Up

The other option not mentioned here are the General Grabber AT2s on the 18" rim. Although not a mud terrain, are a really good compromise between the MTR and the road tyre. You should be able to get those for about £110 per corner. I have these and am very pleased Thumbs Up ....

where are you in Kent BTW?

IF YOU HAD 18" RIMS YOU COULD GO FO 255/60X18 GENERAL AT2, A VERY GOOD ALL TERRAIN TYRE.

Trouble is that having just bought the car I'm not rolling in spare cash at the moment, so don't really want to be buying a second set of wheels as well... I can see the advantages, but not for a while yet I think!

I'm in Chislehurst (near Bromley)
 I want that one...

D3 only goes to 112 (as std)..... so S should be fine. I think the previous ones were Q rated at 99(?)

Mine are all S rated & they have been close to D3 max....... Whistle
