Land Rover Driving Experience

Hi

I would like to know if any if you have attended the Road Driver Training at Gerotek?

http://www.ndubazi.co.za/courses.htm

It certainly is more expensive than other half-day courses, especially considering that you use your own car but with a co-driver (the wife) it is more cost effective. What would you say is the impact on the vehicle and tyres after this day?

Further to that, how about the 4x4 course at the Kyalami (Lonehill) centre?

http://www.landroverexperience.com/experie...o_burg.htm

I've done the BMW skidpan twice and also an intro 4x4 course but would like to do same with my new Disco. I really want the wife to get similar experience. We don't expect very advanced stuff but rather a fun day while learning the new vehicle. But we need a bit of a challange. For man obviously, not machine.

I'm keen to hear your comments.

Regards,

Depending on your experience , you might find it quite tame . Not sure how much they charge at LRE - but another good alternative is to join the Land Rover Owner's Club . They are a bit anal but you will get good training and they tend to have events regularly .

I recently did the intro course at LRE just because I got it as a freeby when I bought the D3 from LR Sandton. Not worth the while except for the last obstacle called "heartbreak hill". The instructor could not answer any of my questions during theory and as an example was not aware of the extended suspension mode when D3's body sits on an obstacle.

I have done 4wheel drive club courses and LROC - LROC courses are the best, but I did all these with my Defender - do not know how clued up they are with off road capability of D3. I know for a fact that not one committee member or instructor owes a D3 - either Defender or Disco1.

You can speak to Mike Ilsley who is chairman of the club - he will give you his honest opinion. PM me if you want contact details

I've been to Gerotek 3 times. 1st time was in 2005 when I got my Disco 3. Highly recommended. Been back twice after with corporate groups spending day there under the guidance of Tony.

Talking about Tony Yeo ? If so , then I agree the course he does is much better than the one in Sandton

I had a great experience at Lonehill. Instructor was very knowledgeable and explained detail theory about the D3.
I have done many 4x4 courses and this was one of the best, maybe because driving the D3 off-road is totally different than any of my previous 4x4s.

Not knocking the course or the instruction , just felt that the terrain could have been made more challenging seeing that most of the obstacles are man made

mmmmm

I still think I'm gonna give it a try at Gerotek. I want the wife to get the "feel" of the car under (out-of)controlled conditions.
