I’m quite happy with the hybrid system we have atm, it doesn’t need messed with for the sake of it. I use the unit type that suits me, eg driving I use miles in UK & US, kms elsewhere, and for running I use kms. Most of us have enough brain capacity to cope with more than one unit for the same thing.

I'm 57 and was educated in both as a hybrid when decimalisation came in and metric units started to be prevalent.
I can generally work in both OK but there are some things I can't get my head around. I calculate fuel consumption in MPG, never understood l/100km
Still think travel distance in miles, even in Europe I do mental maths to get 'real miles'
I don't know anybody that weighs themselves in Kilo's or talks of their height in metres yet I'll happily buy my meat/fish in grams/kilo's.
Fruit and veg I buy in 'required amount' by numbers of items generally, half a dozen (or 6 ) apples or whatever, not a specific weight.
Cooking is another area of mixed weights of imperial and metric hybrid.
And when doing DIY I have very often purposely mixed my measures if it gives an exact figure making it easier to remember; six inches by 100mm
My lad was all 'metric' (he's 27 now) until he started his apprenticeship and mostly imperial applied so he now thinks in 'both'
I'm happy as it is but don't like the sneaking in of a metric system by stealth where a lot of road markers are now Km's and metres, if we're going metric just do it but I think anybody under about the age of 40 is probably metric anyway?

Both for me.
Sq Ft for commercial area / metres for length / KG for weight and loading / km for bike and walking / miles for driving / mpg for consumption / pint for a pint / ml for drinks / hectares for sites
What I cant work with is
l/100km for consumption / feet and inches for building plans / Fahrenheit / furlongs and yards

I’ve always thought tyres were odd:
- Diameter - inches
- Width - millimetres
- Height - a ratio
It seems to work, but saying that I’d much prefer to be fully SI units.

The world needs to adopt one universal system, but until rose tinted glasses are banned that may not happen. At least in my lifetime.
It has. SI Units. Even the Yanks are metric. They may not know it, but their "US Customary units" are derived from SI. The pound is defined by reference to the kg, for example.
The Imperial system was based on Roman and French systems - hardly British, eh? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

US passed the Metric Conversion Act in 1975. The using the SI system is completely voluntary, however, and the imperial units may be used if one wants.

How’s it digressed onto an EU as opposed to imperial with reference to the French & Romans?
It’s as simple as something we used for a long time and a lot of us can remember as opposed to something newer.

It’s impossible to avoid using the metric system in the United States. All our measurement units, including U.S. customary units you’re familiar with (feet, pounds, gallons, Fahrenheit, etc.), are defined in terms of the SI—and mass, length, and volume have been defined in metric units since 1893!

The whole world uses metric (except a couple of minor countries and the US in day to day stuff). Just about every important thing is done using metric.
So why go back to a system that no one uses and few people, other than those of a certain age, even know or care about?

Ditto.
