Long overdue or too heavy handed?
Saw this on the news tonight, looks like the police are taking a tougher stance against moped criminals by knocking them off their bikes. Link Here
In my opinion, it's about time they took a tougher stance against the perpetrators and if a few get hurt in the process................tough s**t.
So what do you reckon, too heavy handed or appropriate action?Mods:

In my area we have problems with bikers, they tear up and down the playing field at the bottom of my street, which is popular with dog walkers. The bikers ride pretty close to people, they’ve scared my dog a few times by revving their engine and riding close up to her. Very intimidating. Police up here are powerless, they at the moment at least can’t give chase.

I’ve got a problem when it’s not immediately obvious which one the criminal is - the person on the bike, or the officer driving the car.
Taking it to an extreme, I’m sure we’d feel pretty sick if one of our (innocent) relatives were deliberately knocked down and possibly even killed having been misidentified.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I’m not sure how many other road users would have failure to stop met with a method of stopping that risks instant serious injury or death. Even stingers are designed to deflate tyres in a controlled manor allowing a fleeing car to come to a safe stop.
I remember seeing police footage of a police car striking a cyclist and knocking him off in circumstances that were hardly called for, but once this kind of power is issued, where does it stop?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

After seeing what these mobs do ....seemingly with impunity ...it's the only way I'm afraid.
The police driver has to make the right calculation based upon the additional training they receive. So far injuries have been no worse that if you were tackled in a foot-chase.....and more importantly there's a certain satisfaction in seeing them tumble down the road.

Oh I'm sure the police are fully aware which one the criminal is and use a tactic that is deemed suitable to execute a successful arrest. I'm sure if there was any doubt what so ever, the tactics would be different.Mods:

These are not "bikers" . They use mopeds and/or bikes, but please don't tar real bikers with the same brush.

Watching the footage on here, half the time they crash on their own anyway.
I'm ambivalent about it. The right-wing, living-in-the-50s side of me thinks "yeah, sod 'em, it's their own fault". The more liberal side thinks "great, more money wasted both by the NHS patching them up and defending claims against the police".
Of course, a few months of this happening and the thugs will choose a new MO and the issue will go away anyway.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
