Lots of Waypoints ...

For you real explorers out there; if you're really getting off the beaten track, but following routes and way-points from another source, do you use a second GPS that you can connect to a PC and download to before hand, sit in the car and type everything in on the touchscreen for hours on end, or is there a way of putting routes and way-points into the LR system that I don't know about?

A second GPS on a PC. Either Memory Map (UK) or Fugawi (Africa etc)

Agree, MM or Fugawi are excellent.

You can use the off-road mode on the D3, but the touch screen is a little cumbersome for entering coordinates, and the number of routes you can store is limited.

It is of use if you are off-road, the snail trail is good to keep a record if you need to track back, but I would always have a pc and proper gps mapping software to back it up.

Cool - I got a Garmin Zumo that I used on my bike so I'm sorted.

The Zumo sounds like Borat when it talks.

I wonder if I could get Zumo and Audrey (my name for the woman behind the dashboard) to bicker over directions?

Or Oziexplorer, has a 3d version which uses height data to give a 3d image onto whatever you care to put in. (satellite, contour or road maps) Depends what maps you can get for your area.
