What modifications have you done, how would you rate them? |
|
Coming from a radical modified D2 I wonder what you have done to "improve" the LR3 and how would you rate the changes now that you have done them?
As example: I had run several tires on the D2, and found some much better than others. My prior Safari rack was great looking, but a real gas and noise problem....

Here's my list so far:
- added quite a lot noise 3 cm thick absorber to the enginefirewall, there was nothing on top of break and clutch pedals but just open holes for noise to flow in. Also some other places in back: maybe some improvement, recommended to do
- Dinitrol antirust 3+5 liters: absolutely mandatory task to do if you plan to keep your Disco3 longer than 5 years, all countries, especially if close to sea. Orinal antirust handling is really poor (the same problem also in Land Cruiser and ML)
- Defa block heater + indoor heater: necessary for Skandinavia (&Siberia if there's any electricity), not for others
- original rool rails + bar + ski box: necessary for skiing families
- Nokia 610 GSM car phone: improves accessability when far enough from basestations due better receiver sensitivity and 8 W amplifier, recommended
- original quick release tow bar + cables: mandatory for utility use, excellent
- original front mudflaps: excellent
- original Dog Guard/Cargo Barrier-Dis3: excellent
- back seat cover because of the kids (make more crap than dogs..)
- metal wastebasket to the back seat
- extra 4 * 12 V female plugs into the center console
- DVD player with 2 displays on the front headsets + headphones: kids really like those, can look straight forward, more comfort to the kids neck in long trips
still to be done:
- 2nd battery
- Geosat2 GPS (ordered)
- fog lights
- additonal high beams lights (have them already)
- Valeo beep&park parking assistance ( " ")
- maybe a subwoofer (need to think about it still)
- maybe a Warn winch, need to study more how to install it
- inverter to get 220 V AC (for laptop PC, my offroad maps are running in a PC that is connected to a Magellan GPS)
Problem just now is that my garage start to be damn cold, below +5 when there's -25 outside, have to wait until spring -- too many modifications made to my Disco 3 to be listed in here --

tell me more about fixing any future rust issues. In the US, most do nothing, but in years past we had underspray type applications that would help some?
also sound proofing? not sure what you did and why?

IF i had a D3, and the knowlage to do it i would install a plug near the radio/ steering wheel to attach the CB antenna into so that the speakers would work or be overrode when someone spoke to me and with the anttena (tellyscopic) fitted into the roof which would also come up when the CB is plugged in.
