I recently had a brand new D4 HSE LUX for a couple of days while my 2010 HSE was in with LR having work done, my D4 has covered 74k, 12k of those has been done in the last 12 months under my ownership - I was toying with the idea of 'upgrading' to a new model before they disappear as I'm not a fan of the D5 from what I've seen so far - anyhow, I was REALLY let down by my experience, my D4's worth about 40k less than the one I borrowed and there really was no massive differences to note! Really it was fantastic as I was able to ascertain that I'm happy to keep my 2010 and it put any hankering after a new one to bed!

I totally agree Robert, I would have been more than happy to keep my old MY11. Trouble was, after 126,000 happy miles it was starting to get a little costly and unreliable to use from a business perspective. In the end, the fantastic deals you can currently get swung it for me.
For most of us, the D4 still beats most of the competition. After about a year of looking and testing new vehicles, the closest choice for me was the new Volvo XC90 D5. Unfortunately, I couldn't live with the feeble 4 cylinder and massive turbo lag.
So the big question for me is not will the new D5 be better than the old D4... it's will it be better than an XC90? 2005 D3 HSE

Just ask the garage to disable it next time it's in for a service.

Unfortunately, "feeble 4 cylinder and massive turbo lag" will be the way forward. It's the sort of nonsense to be expected in a XC90, but it's unforgivable in a Disco! Just look at the premium that Jaguar charge for a 3.0 diesel F-Pace over the 2.0 litre Ingenium engine version; I imagine that you'll be looking at the future price differential for a D5 with a proper engine over that with the ubiquitous four

It'll certainly be much closer to being in line with the mass market appeal of regular SUV's / MPV's, such as the XC90 and the X5, but we'll just have to wait and see if they can ditch their existing USP's and build a better Volvo or BMW than the past masters at the task can... 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

3 weeks into the 15 Lux from a 12 HSE
Flappy paddles; had them on the 12, use them a bit, a sod when wheel turned & you go to use them & they're not 'there'
Footwell; no issues
Sat Nav; seems to take forever to fire up, when it gets there I feel it's an improvement
Rotary knob; no issues
Paint; not noticed anything
USB; stupid place to put it, loose more of the already short storage space
Blind Spot Monitoring; it's a bit hit & miss in it's decision making
Meridian; I love it
Stop/start; concept great, application not, (SWMBO's has been back in twice now as it's so temperamental), I don't understand how it can stop then start again without moving your foot, think it needs some TLC
Seats; not sure if placebo but feels firmer & more comfortable.
2nd & 3rd row; the seat covers I used in the 12 now seem baggy & don't fit, 2nd row ctr especially. Paul.

Sounds like whining 1st world problems in this thread
I loved my other Discos but I wouldn't swap them for my current.
As for stop start ...just press the off button if you don't like it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

No whining from me, open appraisal as far as I'm concerned. Loved all of the ones I've had, each being an improvement on the last in most respects, just think some things heven't been properly thought out. Age old adage of no design is perfect, there's always room for improvement Paul.

We are misguided to think they are premium prices ......they are entirely relative to the pricing structure that always was ...with relevant inflation. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Indeed. Taking inflation into account, my 2006 HSE was very close in price to my 2016 Landmark.

In the last 6 years, each Land Rover (in this case 6 but 8 in total) has been an improvement each year.
Blind spot is awesome...the only thing with the latest infotainment is the halfway house between the current rest of model infotainment and the 2015 discovery...poor the 2015 or latest version would have been far better Mike

I only paid about £500 more for my 2016 Graphite, that has more kit, than my 2012 XS, so price is good for me.
