Based on that and what I paid for my first D3 over ten years ago I should be driving a brand spanker D4
But sadly it only reflects RPI, not pay rises (or expensive kids)... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Stop/start for me isn't an issue, it's the first auto I've had with it, gentle pressure stops the engine cutting out on most occasions, flappy paddles, had them on my previous on and yet to catch my hand on them and the rotary gear knob acts as a great table when parked up at the odd burger van.
The engine on the 16MY feels ands silky smooth and seems a bit more livelier and SE spec has just enough stuff on it for me. In short IMO it's the best so far.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Obviously during the car's lifetime, the global robustness/solidity may drop but slowly a long the ownership time.
The day that you drive the new car for the first time everything seems better for a psychological effect and why it goes from a car "lived" to a newborn in few minutes.
And if one does a maniacal maintenance as I like to do on my car, the difference is virtually nonexistent. Remains the psychological aspect (you will have to justify the well drying up of your bank account )Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

There are many definite improvements in each model year, how much they are "worth" is a debating point...but warranty etc starts to also factor.Mike

Just replaced my 2009 HSE for a 2016 Landmark which cost 6k£ more, for 7 years later that's pretty good going.
I would not have changed it, the old motor never put a foot wrong, but I didn't want to have a 12 year old car in 5 years time but I do want to have something as capable as a D4 and I'm not convinced the D5 will be that.
The stop/start is dangerous at roundabouts and junctions, previously my foot would be fully down on the brake to ensure no risk of creeping out into the traffic, but now having come to a stop I immediately try to lift my foot just enough to avoid the stop/start without letting her creep forward. That is a very fine balance and one which increases the risk of entering the traffic flow at the wrong time with potentially catastrophic consequences. Fumbling around with the disable button in its hard to locate without looking for it spot, seems like a retrograde step.
For reverse parking I have the same issue as the others who raised it. If the delay could be increased to 2 seconds from half a second it would give me time to select reverse without stopping the motor between gears. Bah!2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

I think so, went from my12 to 16...
It's smoother
It's quieter
Wind noise is massively reduced
It's not had 80k of my softening the seat
Sat nav and head unit in general is much faster and responsive
It's still a disco 4
It's bloody great Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

I recently had a brand new D4 HSE LUX for a couple of days while my 2010 HSE was in with LR having work done, my D4 has covered 74k, 12k of those has been done in the last 12 months under my ownership - I was toying with the idea of 'upgrading' to a new model before they disappear as I'm not a fan of the D5 from what I've seen so far - anyhow, I was REALLY let down by my experience, my D4's worth about 40k less than the one I borrowed and there really was no massive differences to note! Really it was fantastic as I was able to ascertain that I'm happy to keep my 2010 and it put any hankering after a new one to bed!
I am in exactly the same boat! I cant see what spending the extra will give me .. although I will be upgrading eventually from MY10 to a late D4 as I really dont like the way the LR range is going.

I am sure most of this has been covered but I recently went from a MY13 XS to a MY16 HSE and Love it.
I find of all the cars I have had recently with Start / Stop ( BMW 525/Audi A4) this one is the least intrusive and much nicer than the previous cars which I had to always switch off, I don't bother with this one. The ONLY good thing about the BMW which is not on this one when stopped is that you could wiggle the steering wheel and it would start, good at round-abouts as the thing was so slow to pick up
I think the Blind Spot indicator is brilliant and on the Reverse Camera can see way past the entrance of my drive as I reverse out, and the pick up of cars and people going past has saved me a number of times.
Compared to my MY13 this is soooo smooth and quiet, even SWMBO has noticed it
Plus love the lower tax banding
MPG is a lot better as well
I think although this one has xenon ( XS didn't) its not a big improvement, My other car ( Mitz PHEV ) is so much brighter its really noticeable
The Sat Nav is so much more responsive to touch, however, it still takes us the most peculiar ways to places but we have gotten used to that.
The BEST feature I think on this one is the Puddle Lights with the LR Graphic, near useless but so cool
Overall, we are happy with it

My MY16 Landmark is also incredibly smooth.
It feels to me as if has a reasonable amount more bhp and torque than my previous MY 14 & MY 15 models.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Just sold my 13 plate and have a 65 coming, did anyone notice a huge difference to the economy? Only asking as its one of the justifications in moving to a newer car!!

The stop start is extremely intrusive on my MY16 HSE as well. Unfortunately, we can't get the lower road fund licence banding AND have the stop start default to off.
Just ask the garage to disable it next time it's in for a service.
Mine's in for it's second service next week. I shall ask the question and I will publish their reply....

Interesting thread as I'm wondering whether to replace my MY11 Landmark. The consensus seems to be that current models are appreciably better but still I wonder whether that's worth £20k to me. I guess only I can answer that one...
There seemed to be a lot of initial unhappiness over lag with the 8-speed gearbox. Is that no longer an issue with the latest models or just something we got used to?

The lag was a software issue that has been resolved, in general. The jump from MY11 to My16 is quite substantial....
