How much oil between the lines?

When you look a the digital gauge on the D4, there are lines, with an obvious middle line.

Does anyone know how much oil it takes to top up from 1 line to the next one?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

From the owners manual , The approximate quantity of oil required to raise the level from MIN to MAX on the dipstick is 1.5 litres (2.6 pints) for all models.

I find it very easy to overfill at this stage, better to do it in small stages rather than one big gesstimate Thumbs Up

Strangely enough, just topped mine up at the weekend. It was showing the same level as that handbook image and it took about 300ml I guess to top up.

Do people generally aim for their oil level at 'max' or 1 line down from 'max'?

Thanks.

It would imply, that roughly 187 ml of oil per line.

Mine was on the next line down from the image. I put in between 400-500ml, and it only went up 1 line.

My work car park is perfectly flat, so will check it again on the way out today.

I'll have a look at the bottle to see exactly how much I did add when I get home later.

Oddly in my CCF I’m sure there is an option to change the increments. I think the 5.0 is a different figure to the 3.0 diesel, is the 5.0 available in the U.K.?

Just checked the CCF and it shows 1.0ltr for Petrol and 1.9ltr for diesel for min to max.

Edit, just checked a CCF for a 3.0 SDV6 and it shows top up value of 1.0ltr too so ignore my above comment.

The 2012 model I had was once three segments down from Max, took barely a mug full to bring it up to Max, so go easy, it should tell you how much to add, if it needs topping up though.

I find that when mine says 'add 1.0 l.' which is one mark down from the centre, if I add 1 litre, it takes it to one mark below maximum and therefore up four marks.

So for me, 1 increment is approximately 250ml. However, I think we need to be cognisant that these things aren't the most accurate instruments in the world.

If you’re checking the oil, how come you’re adding oil when the car is t requesting it?

Just topped up my oil. It never used to use a drop between 6 monthly services and now it is. Suspect that's linked to my smoky secondary turbo.

Before.

And after.

So that['s 0.7l for three divisions = 0.23l per division or very close to 0.25 as someone else suggested.

Hi, does anybody know if you can fit a real dipstick where the oil removal pipe is? Just be nice to regularly check on the condition (colour) of the oil without waiting for each service.

Thanks
