Started to do something similar a while back. What did you secure extension piece with?
I have attached a 27mm socket onto the winch spindle.
This is quite a tight fit anyway but cutting a nice neat hole (with a hole cutter) in the rubber cover has made for a really nice 'seal'
Then the series of socket reducers and the main exension spindle extend up between the 3rd row seat and finishes pretty much flush with the boot floor -
I had to cut the metal seat brackets back slightly to accomodate the spindle (finished off with a touch of black hammerite)
The whole assembly kind of just 'sits there' as it is prevented from any lateral movement by the seats themselves.
On lowering / raising the winch the sockets and spindles are subject to a compressive force and so no uplift that might dislodge the extension pieces2000 D2 TD5 - big red tractor no longer with us

Here's a full breakdown......
Mine has the 'loop' as well.
I inserted a small bolt through the hole and put a nut on the end to give a socket something more to bite on
I then chose a socket that gave a nice tight fit onto the Nut/bolt/loop, in this case it was a 27mm half inch socket
Then using a hole saw cut a nice tight hole in the rubber cover.
Then a half inch to 3/8 inch reducer, and a 3/8 to 1/4 inch reducer combination.
Then a 1/4 inch extension spindle takes the whole assembly.........
to finish flush with the boot floor
Here's the small notch I had to make (dremmel) in the seat bracket to allow free movement. I filed off the rough edges and then applied a couple of coats of hammerite to tidy up
And then to operate, another 1/4 inch extension spindle and a cheap 1/4 inch ratchet
