New rear propshaft problem

Evening.

He is a rather unusual one I'm experiencing just now.
The old D3 decided it was time to have a new rear propshaft fitted as it let go on the M6 coming home to Scotland after a trip down to Cornwall.
She was recovered back to the house and I fitted a complete new shaft from LR Trade parts yesterday.

However, once fitted and out for a drive, its bloody rough and noisy. Still feels like there is an issue with the propshaft! Cant really go over 40 ish or it gets a bit painful.
Just ran it a mile or so along the road and once back at the house to check the shaft , transfer box and diffs for heat, I feel the centre joint on the rear prop is hot. The "cv" joint next to the centre bearing if you like.

What I have noticed is that the centre bearing carrier is a different dimension from the original. Its causing the shaft to sit approximately 8mm lower in the middle.
I cut the old centre bearing hanger off and compared it against the new one to confirm this measurement.

Has anyone had a similar issue with new shafts?

The rear prop usually runs in a fairly straight line, which the rearmost UJ doesn't like. UJ's like to run a small angle. I don't think the 8mm difference in bearing position will make it noisy, more likely it's just not been balanced properly.

There's a reason why yours from LR Trade was £260 and a GKN one is more like £500

Good luck if it’s the same fella working there as 3-4 years ago. Had him shouting and screaming down the phone at me after the 3rd faulty part out of the box in a row. Cheap for a reason and not necessarily a good one.

As for propshafts, GKN only for me front and rear - they do cost more but they are the only ones that work and last.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have to admit, i did zero groundwork regarding checking out the various brands for a replacement.
It was ordered while awaiting the recovery truck when I was five hours from home.

I will go over to the local Indi Specialist and get one from them in the morning. Hopefully they have a GKN on the shelf.

Shall report back once change out.

Cheers.
