New Turbo

Can anyone please shed the approximate cost for a new Turbo on a 2011 D4?

Boris (My Discovery) didnt have a very "good" Good Friday with a clunk and a woosh accelerating on the local Bypass, and then straight into restricted performance Sad

Pulled over but could hear the turbo sounding like a jet preeparing to take off Sad

Lovely AA man recovered it to my home (With it being good friday all garages closed) and they are going to do and onward transport to a garage on Tuesday but the 4 day weekend has got me in overdrive planning how many organs I am going to need to sell to sort this Sad

The lovely AA Chap said it didnt sound like it had damaged the engine but that it would require at the least a new turbo...............

Much easter chocolate was consumed yesterday after this event

The price for the hardware varies whether LHS or RHS or by VIN.

In broad terms for new c.£1,450 inc VAT + fitting.

You can get reconditioned turbos, and others may advise replacing inlet manifold gasket(s) at the same time as they are a known problem area.

Good luck.

Fault Codes................

So Boris (The D4) is about to begin the next stage of his recovery with the AA transporting him to the Landrover Independant gargae for repairs.

We did speak to another garage this morning to see if they could fit him in and they said looking at the fault codes it might not be the Turbo??

Fault codes were:

P006A - Intake manifold pressure/ Air mass Meter malfunction
P00BE - Air flow meter (bank 2)/ Air mass Meter (Bank 2) Mechanical Fault
P1247 - Turbocharger boost pressure Malfunction
P0105 - Intake manifold pressure sensor/ Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage below threshold
P0107 - Intake manifold pressure sensor/ Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage below threshold
Lambda sensor signal on breaking
P2297 - (Bank 1. Sensor 1)

Are all these pointing towards turbo or could it be something else (Hopefully a cheaper something else???)

Did they have a look at the roadside, or was this an educated look over the engine decision that it was a Turbo?
The noise can easily be a hose off or a split. The 2011 has alot of pipework, and this needs checking before you order anything.
Also, have the inlet manifolds ever been done. These crack ( my 2011 needed both doing), and can throw up codes along the intake system where sensors get confused.
Hopefully your indy will be switched on to the D4 and know what to look for.
Be wary of just replacing espensive parts too early on though.

Thanks,

Very minor look at the roadside, the turbo sounds like a jet engine when you start it so AA guy had it start, gently rev and then swith it off straight away!

Independant garage is very good (Landranger Services) so sure they will get to the bottom of it..........

Inlet manifolds havent been done to my knowledge (Ive had it 5.5 years and it was very low milage when I brought it so assume not.....) Are these expensive?? Big job??

Landranger are very good. No problems with them just chucking stuff at it. They did the manifold on my old D4 when it cracked. Which branch are you using? I used Stockport.

Shhheeeeeettttttt!

Long story short but have called another indy garage to see if they could fit it in and they are saying if its the Turbo its potentially £2k per turbo (Could be both) and 25 hours labour at £99 per hour - does that sound at all plausable?

Do I need to look at retiring Boris to the big scrap heap in the sky as is it worth putting potentially £6.5k worth of repairs on a 2011 car that has done 136k miles???

See above & Advanced Factors website - C. £1,400 inc VAT per turbo. £99 per hour is OK if it includes VAT, I'm paying £102 inc VAT, in the more expensive South of England.

You need to get the problem diagnosed by and a price from a decent Indy.

Is the Advanced Factors Turbo a genuine LR part? Im not sure if I will get them to fit it if not?

Is it likely both turbos have gone at the same time and are they exactly the same Turbo?
