This needs properly diagnosing before conclusions can be drawn. The rush of air sounds like a boost leak which could be cracked inlet manifold, spilt hoses etc.Stu

Its the waiting to get it dianosed that is killing me...........
Im in total apocalypse planning mode!!!
Indy was supposed to diagnose this week with a view to getting the repais done mid next week, now they tell me that they wont even look at it until next week and repairs may be the week after.
So does the rush of air not sound like a turbo??
(I may sleep tonight if I have a little hope

So Boris (The D4) is about to begin the next stage of his recovery with the AA transporting him to the Landrover Independant gargae for repairs.
We did speak to another garage this morning to see if they could fit him in and they said looking at the fault codes it might not be the Turbo??
Fault codes were:
P006A - Intake manifold pressure/ Air mass Meter malfunction
P00BE - Air flow meter (bank 2)/ Air mass Meter (Bank 2) Mechanical Fault
P1247 - Turbocharger boost pressure Malfunction
P0105 - Intake manifold pressure sensor/ Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage below threshold
P0107 - Intake manifold pressure sensor/ Atmospheric pressure sensor voltage below threshold
Lambda sensor signal on breaking
P2297 - (Bank 1. Sensor 1)
Are all these pointing towards turbo or could it be something else (Hopefully a cheaper something else???)

The rush noise should be investigated first, and jumping to the new turbo at such an early stage is a bit quick.
I think this was mentioned by the AA person at recovery, but without hearing the thought process behind it, I would leave it be for now.
Those codes could quite easily come from a pipe/hose off somewhere along the line.
Turbos do go wrong, but it's not that common, and hoses splitting or popping off is.
There's alot of pipework on the twin sequential turbo 2011 models. It's not easily visible, but if the engine runs ( having not read anything to the contrary here..) then looking with a torch and listening for the direction of the air leak is what's required.
I would say don't fret yet. It's a shame the indy didn't have a quick listen for you.
Reading about prices of Turbos is a little too eager at the moment.2011 MY D4 HSE

THANK YOU!!
Engine runs and sounds as normal until the turbo sound winds up (Couple of seconds) and it literally sounds like a jet engine on a plane!
Fingers crossed its nothing major and just a blown hose..........
Infact if the repairs come in at under £2k at the moment I would seriously be delighted!!!
Its just frustrating that the Indy wont even look at it until next week now as were in a situation where my husbands car was written off 3 weeks ago and we loose the hire car next week so sourcing him a car but keeping the repair cost for mine out of his insurance pay out.
...................... Ive lost the will to live so have just brought him a Audi S5 - that should appease his inner 18 year old boy racer!

Plus 1 in that it’s just a hose that’s come off
Hope u don’t mind me adding but on my D3 I fitted some stainless steel T bolt clamps on my silicone intercooler hoses , found they provided a better solution than ordinary jubilee clips

My 2013 D4 had the intercooler hose split on the A1 a few years ago and sounded just like that. hose is the top one - this picture is after the roadside repair I did

This is the split from the inside

The actual split was small but made a lot of noise when the car was revved and had no power, but wasnt a large hole - this is on the outside covered with superglue before tape wrapping - hope its something as simple as this got a hose the next day for about £45 from memory

So Landranger have called and they are 80% certain its the Passanger side turbo that has gone, along with a belt tensioner (Thats a minor factor in the grand scheme of things)
Rough estimate at this point of £2500 - £3000 although they need to check the drivers side Turbo is okay, if it isnt then that estimate goes up to £4500 - £5000.
Resistically I'll stand the £3k but if Im getting up towards the 5K mark then I may need to make a decision on what to do with it, whats the best way to get the max value out of the car if its not feesible to repair??
Oh, and they cant even consider the repairs on it until the 11th may

Has anyone used a company called Best Turbos in Birmingham - they are coming up at £2800 including VAT for both Turbos?
