Off again 😎 on Road Trip 2018!
Right, it's mid-summer, time for Road Trip/Temp Migration North starting tomorrow at 04:00. The moose road sign is in residence as avatar and hurdiegurdie lights are on so officially ready.
All packed, as much stuff under the load deck and in the rear cubby holes as poss, plus under driver's and passenger's seat, so the main body of the car is not too full. I learned the lesson from last year and tried to cut down on the rubbish I was carrying, for example I did not need 5 torches when going to somewhere with 24/24 daylight! The Engel is full of food, I've taken advantage of the offers on beer for the World Cup and don't tell SWMBO but a couple of bottles of vino (or three) may have stowed away in one of the boxes. With prices of beer & VC in Scandinavia I'm thinking of that as an investment.
I'm not taking the Oztent, but have a small tent instead if I don't want to sleep in the car. One departure from last year in that I have a definite route and timetable, and for every night (except one) I have a hotel booked. I'll prob use about half what I have booked (mostly for the long haul nights + Honningsvag) but at least if the weather is either too hot or too cold, if the bugs are out in force too much or I just fancy a comfy bed and a shower followed by a slap up breakie, I'll have a bolt hole.
Route is a bit different this year.

Up the E4 but taking the ferry from Umea to Vaasa in Finland, then across to the Rooskie border and north to the wilderness areas around Lokka & Inari lakes. Mainly the bits I didn't see last year as the car was falling apart around my ears. Then round the top, good few places I haven't been to, and down a bit of Norway, poss to Batterie Dietl, before hacking back into Sweden & down. Well that's the plan. Only day I'm not looking forward to is tomorrow, just under 500 mile drag through F, B, NL & D on a Friday with what looks like half the German Autobahns undergoing roadworks. That is going to be a long day.
Will bung up the usual photos of weird (and not so weird) things I see, plus the obligatory videos of reindeers. Got my Bangin Toonz sorted, lots of data, plus phone/data coverage for rural Sweden (three is pants away from towns) and can't think of anything I've forgotten. No doubt that'll happen once I hit the M25.
Oh, and before the vultures get interested, I've given the car a good talking when I was editing her CCF and told her I want to have her back on the drive in one piece. Not lots of pieces in the back of the Jazz. Fingers crossed she's listening.

She better listen, I'm going a good bit more remote this year. Well it's only remote until the next car comes along.
