Potential MAF sensor issue

Hit a puddle at high speed last week and my D4 was running fine until I put my foot down which then threw up the ECU light on the dash and went into "restricted performance mode".

I looked in the engine bay and everything was dry, I've had the air filter out which is the same. I had recovery out who plugged it in and confirmed the error was "P010D Mass or Volume Air Flow B Circuit High".

I first tried cleaning both MAF sensors with no luck and have just replaced them but still have the ECU light on. I've just done a hard reset on the ECU and waiting a bit before I connect the battery back up.

Is there anything else I should be looking at before I have to remortgage to get my local specialist to look at it?

I followed all the hoses and they all look secure.

The other thing I noticed was that there is a yellow sticky residue around the battery terminals but I would have thought that would cause different problems.

Just had the self same issue with mine (didn't drive through a puddle though). Viewing the MAF sensor live data will most likely tell you the issue. The sensor the DTC refers is the one nearest the front of the car and serves the primary turbo. I'll bet the mass flow rate is around 200+ g/s and is fixed (doesn't vary with revs). I reckon a new MAF sensor will fix your problem. No need to go near a dealer if you're prepared to give it a go yourself, very easy job.

No - no point in my case given the signal from the MAF sensor was unresponsive and the DTC indicated the MAF sensor (or circuit) had failed high. Needed to address that initially. Spent a good few years working on vehicle diagnostics which has taught me to start with easiest and cheapest things first. A new sensor fixed the problem.

Got it fixed.

Turns out it was the MAF as suspected. Weirdly, the ECU light didn't go off after a hard reset but she was was running fine with no restricted performance.

Arranged to take it down the garage this afternoon to plug it in and when I got back in, the light had cleared!

Oh, the joys of Landy ownership!

The EML will only self-clear (but leave a non-active DTC) if there are four 'clear' engine run/stop cycles and the cause is not emissions related.
