Programming of replaced EPB module? Eh??

I have seen many videos about EPB repair and replacement but this is the first I have come across that says its essential to get a replaced EPM programmed. Its a Britpart video and its at 5:56.

He says it so it must be true?? But how and why? And whats the effect of not programming?

Cheers

You have to tell the EPB if it's a manual or auto gearbox. Otherwise it could be looking for clutch position or not for auto release on hill starts and all that stuff.

I would have thought a GAP could do it.

They are VIN locked so it needs coding when fitted to the car as well as calibrating which can be done with GAP.

Thanks for your quick responses.
As I have been using a borrowed second hand unit to fault find my own EPB do you think this could explain why I am getting seemingly illogical actions of the EPB motor and a constant red flashing light?

And to change VIN and tell it my car is an auto is that via the IID ECU flash functions (gulp)?

Flashing light is a signal it's not calibrated or coded to the car. It might work with just a calibration but there will be a permanent fault code and possibly red flashing light re the coding.

According to GAP they are not VIN coded.

What about programming and calibration? The Britpart video does not say anything on how to do it. And the GAP is not more informative.

Any help out there?
