Before I spent any money or time on it I would be doing some research on the so called rebuilt engine, who did it? What did they “rebuild”? How many miles warranty come with it(engine)? Rebuilt engines have a very poor success rate It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Well calm your fears rebuilt with a genuine new crank and I trust my work colleague he has built a few of these with 100% success he has also built various engines marine and automotive in his 25 years as a mechanic he knows his stuff. My boss won't sell to anyone and I have a very good warranty thats what you get for working for a successful indy with more than 30yrs working with the JLR brand, So I know my engine I know my car.
If it did go pop I'd put a 2.7 block in it no dramas its the better engine of the tdv6s anyway and thats the beauty of being a mechanic you fix and maintain your own vehicle for the fraction of the cost.
Mr G thanks for your kind and supportive comments to reply to your question the Garmin does not have a OBD2 port only usb and bluetooth connectivityD4 GS let the retro fit begin

Many thks and ur so welcome , that’s fantastic u have the knowledge to rebuild the engines
Big Apologises , some screens ur able to plug a Bluetooth dongle into the obd2 port which then shows the engines data up onto the screen , alas don’t know if it’s just the double din units that provide it
Did see a garmin model that provided the engine data but think it’s now obsolete
Thks again and awesome work that you’ve done , credit to u

No apologies needed The head unit I will be using would accept a dongle but the Garmin won't. Using the small screen D4 surround would make a really nice fit in the D3 if you need one I've got an old one going spareD4 GS let the retro fit begin

Many thks , funny enough got a surround a while back , bless u for the kind offer as indeed also thought the same of how to finish it off neatly
Once I get mine all sorted out will then start to look at some double din units , as mines a base model in not having an amp suppose in one sense will be easier with just having the old head unit , also seen where some have fitted the large speaker in the boot
Have also noticed some double din units don’t have a CD player , prefer having that than a usb stick
Thks again

Good to see you did the mirrors, when I went from 2012 to 2016 it was the one thing I looked at and really loved. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

My previous D3 was a base model Mr G I fitted a full Kenwood system to that with a big sub in the tailgate and a 500w amp under the passenger seat used a connets2 lead to wire it up and added a reverse camera as well big improvement over the standard system.
Dave T thanks for your kind words I felt like I'd be doing half a job not doing the mirrors being they are memory and powerfold once I change my seats I will hopefully get the auto dip on reverse.
So yesterday was a late finish in the workshop after work had finished I stopped behind to fit my brake
upgrade and do an oil & filter change at the same time, instead of our usual stuff at work I went for some Millers C1 XF premium purchased from Opioils got 20L so enough for 3 changes which I'll do every 5-6000 miles I'd like to give this engine every chance possible for a longish life. I did learn the other day that the previous engine had been rebuilt before (not by us I may add) and it didn't last very long due to a conrod bolt coming loose.
Anyhow back to the brakes while I'm bedding them in haven't done any emergency stops so far to test their full potential but even still you notice the difference. I did a 60 - 0 test on my old brakes on the back road to my house just previous to fitting the new ones so I can at least have a reference as to the difference in braking performance once bedded in.

You could update the IPC, between the speedo and revo with the later version. The IID does it

Thanks for that tip Robpenrose I will look into it.
Well thanks to other peoples hard work and the search function I was able to find all the info I needed to upgrade my front seats to some rather posh soft leather with memory function and heating. All credit must go to forum members Philip1972, M3bobby and FamousFive for their collective write up of this most excellent upgrade. So I had the usual wires to connect up 2 into the can bus and 2 to the door connector lucky enough all the wires were present door side so no problems connecting the door switch.
Had the wires in and seats fitted by close of play on Saturday and this morning fitted the door switch and enabled all CCF functions fitting the door switch wasn't a 5minute job as I had to replace the inner door release cable which had snapped at the white retaining clip it wasn't the first time I had broken this piece as I did the same thing at Christmas upgrading the door cards that time I did a bit of a bodge and repaired it, I did however order a new one at the same time and lucky enough had that to hand to fix my problem. But all is well and I have fully functioning memory seats and mirrors.
I have to say the comfort over the cloth seats is tenfold. I will have to save some more pennies for matching rear seats but I fear this will also require additional wiring as it seems the heated seat connectors are not on the loom
Looking forward to other mods I think TPMS is a must it would be nice to know when you're getting a flat. Also to get the windscreen changed to I can enable auto lights and wipers as the switches are already in. Also still trying to get my head round the media upgrade I'm now considering the dash loom swap to have LR spec timed FBH and Rear camera TV etc its nice to have the other toys

no one cared but I fitted roof rails and painted my side vents and that was a while back.
So today just got my windscreen fitted and once the bonding has set I'll take off the tape and then update the CCF so I can now have auto lights and wipers.

Been a while but the modification road never ends...
One thing on the top of my modding list was the TFT clocks and thanks to JAS over in Everington I've been able to tick it off the list. Along with the coding JAS change the image of the splash screen and change the look of the clocks, lets just say I'm very pleased with the out come.
All thats left to do is change the CCF settings a job for this weekend along with front wheel bearings, rear track control arms, front drop links, rear callipers and a change of wheels.
I love the wheels that are on the car already but I needed something more practical and be able to carry a full size spare so a set of 20inch rims and a set of 275 45 20 AT3
There is one thing still bothering me though guess it'll be a harness swap to fix it

Finally DAB radio has arrived in the D4 along with reverse cam, satnav, TV & DVD

Its not an easy task getting a full size double din in that space, lots of chopping and remaking of the air ducts to the windscreen.

a fair bit of wiring and modules to get fitted

So now I have the stereo fitted it lead to another question what to do with a dead radio keypad ?
Answer go and see a clever mate tell him your idea and wait for the results.
So you can't have dead buttons and its a large awkward area to fill, I wanted to make a simple cover with a bracket on so I could fit my Tyrepal TPMS monitor on the front, using the tyre pal system will also let me keep an eye on the caravan tyres which I was keen to have. So off I went to see my mate and he suggested hard fitting it to the front of the facia so I left some bits with him and left him to his magic.
He first scanned all the parts involved in the mash up and produced a computer copy

Then finally got to 3D printing
Next was to fit the internal gubbins of the Tyrepal monitor and test fit the USB charging ports

This is only the prototype and as you can tell it needs a bit more fettling to get it to look factory, we have had to chamfer the edges of the print to get it set back correctly and the Finnish needs sorting so will try some experiments with vinyl wrapping should get it looking close.
