relocate the head unit GPS screen

Hello everyone,

Im planning on relocating the 4x4 screen/GPS screen of my 2005 D3 V8 HSE. My goal is to put it in the place of the actual audio unit, above the climate control unit. I will then re-use the top part of the audio unit in conjunction with a Joying 10 inch screen and single din unit.

Today I dismounted the entire screen, piece by pieces and I think it will be fairly easy to rebuild a more ''horizontal'' shaped cage to hold the circuits related to the screen so that the whole unit fit into the replacement din chassis I plan to buy to fit in place of the original audio unit.

Has it been already tried by someone ? I've tried to search for anything on the forum but couldn't find anything.

Thank you for your help !

Don’t think anyone’s done that.

What is your aim?
Better music system. Is that important ?
Or more car play interface ?

Hey Pete,

Got the idea from a link you send me by the way. My goal is to have a more modern interface / wireless synchronized with phone etc... Having the new screen down where the audio unit is forces me to look away from the road. I would like the main screen to the height of where the actual GPS screen lies but I also want to keep the 4x4 info screen when offroading.

There are loads of aftermarket different screens available for these. I don't keep up with them.

Just so you are aware, this is one is available. Shown here in RRs, but also available for D3.
I puts the 4x4 info up I believe. From china.

It's not a recommendation.

Also have a look on that forum in electrocnics, for other options. (and here too)
Some good, some bad

Yep, I was goingfor this joying unit, appears its no longer produced, they've released a new one. I'll actually go for a smaller unit but a joying one since the loom is the same as in the thread you posted to me.

Almost all of the chinese head units use standard ISO plugs for connection.
