Removing D4 sidesteps

Any tips on using an angle grinder to remove badly corroded factory sidesteps?

Hi.

Do you mean to grind your nuts off.. not literally 😂

Do you definitely have to use a grinder. I managed to get all but one bolt out with WD40 sprayed over a couple of days.

Or are you thinking of grinding the steps off to give better access to the bolts?

I ground through where the bracket and steps 'overlap' which then meant I could take the sill covers off and remove the mounting bolts.

Apologies for the revival but I just had to comment…. A grinder!?!
Err, no.

As I just went through this, remove the sill covers, use a penetrating oil on all the bolts.
The next day, a little heat and then your impact gun.

And now finally rid of those rust inducing accessories. And on to cleaning up the rust.
new sill covers without the cut outs might be on the horizon…. I’ll live with it for a bit and see.

Cheers.

I sheared most of mine off and drilled and re-tapped them to fit new steps after they and the sills had been treated for rust and sprayed internally then painted with Hammerite.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Whereas I have no intention of replacing the rust magnets.
