Right then, class. Listen up. Rolling with laughter

Quote:
The temperature of the cooling system is
monitored by the ECM via the Engine
Coolant temperature (ECT) sensor located in the
cylinder head. The ECM uses signals from this sensor
to control the cooling fan operation and adjust fuelling
according to engine temperature.

To control the cooling fan, the ECM sends a Pulse
Width Modulated (PWM) signal to the cooling fan
module (integral to the ECM). The frequency of the
PWM signal is used by the cooling fan module to
determine the output voltage supplied to the fan motor.
The ECM varies the duty cycle of the PWM signal
between 0 and 100% to vary the fan speed. If the PWM
signal is outside the 0 to 100% range, the cooling fan
module interprets the signal as an open or short circuit
and runs the fans at maximum speed to ensure the engine
and gearbox do not overheat.

The ECM operates the fan in response to inputs from
the ECT sensor, the transmission oil temperature sensor,
the A/C switch and the A/C pressure sensor.

The speed of the cooling fan is also influenced by
vehicle road speed. The ECM adjusts the speed of the
cooling fans, to compensate for the ram effect of vehicle
speed, using the Controller Area Network (CAN) road
speed signal received from the Anti-lock Braking
System (ABS) module.

Not trying to be cocky DG. Yes, it's on the TOPIx/GTR, but it is in the Training Manual sections which I have to 'edumacate' myself with. Unfortunately, it's giving me a headache. Banging Head

Well when I had a D3 this used to roar a bit when driving off from cold....but now I have a RRS TDV8 this sounds like a MOD Alvis 12 litre truck at start off. But, if you leave it a tickover for 1-2 mins it will disappear at current temperatures, but below 6 deg c the engine preheater will kick in and the roar may not occur! But with a V8 diesel the noise is ....splendido!
My posts here are few and far between.....as I've gone from the D3 club, then to the Defender lads, and now onto to RRS boys....crikey they spend some money on detailing. RRS posts are quite different Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Ha sorry there was an issue where it won't post all my post only first line so I reposted thinking I could sort it. Guess not
But what I wanted to ask was has no one considered the electric fan route and remove the viscous fan. It's a popular mod with the D1 and defender boys. Saves fuel helps engine be a bit livelier and more reliable. But perhaps not an issue on the tdv6.
