I would try resetting it first.
Remove and the refit the DVD from the unit under the passenger seat, failing that power it down

Do you have a Sat Nav manual?
If so have a look at page 24
Route Guidance Screen types
It may be the case you have inadvertently switched off that function
here's a flavour
(any chance you could stick a photo up of your screen?)

This only shows different screen set ups, not the info on it.
Swmbo says we are going shopping today (great!) so will take photo then
Cheers

Just been out and had a play with mine and managed to recreate your 'fault'
Menu
Nav Set Up
User Settings
Then press the arrow down on the bottom left
Arrival time - should be set to on (mine was) I toggles this to off and got the same --/-- display as you
Hopefully yours is the same

Long shot, but it could be the same problem as when you get the dashes on the binnacle instead of the time, if the satnav doesn't know the current time it can't give you an ETA. Fix for this is to disconnect the battery, leave it for 30 secs or so, touch the negative and positive leads together (note the LEADS not the terminals on the battery) to make sure all the various capacitors are discharged, then reconnect it all.
