Running Boards

Yes buy some, I just put on a replacement set and they look great, functional too as other posts relate, wouldn't be without them.
I had to replace the last pair having had an off road experience Big Cry Whistle
SHMBO insisted having damaged "her" car Embarassed I was duty bound to put my hand in my pocket....and pull out a groaning credit card Big Cry
But it was less expensive than having to repair two doors, as the running boards prevented the bloody great rock from ripping the bottom of the doors off Thumbs Up

Also gives the Personal Protection Officers some thing to stand on, saves their little leggies from having to run alongside the D3 Rolling with laughter

FWIW, I just decided against. My D3 doesn't have them, nobody ever missed them. A recent trip in a running board equipped RRS showed me that they are not particularly good-looking, functionally useless and actually a bit embarassing.
YMMV... Smile

Wouldn't be without mine. We have side steps on the Disco and tubes on the FL2. My mum prefers the Disco for ease of getting in and out, and being only 5'2 myself, I use them all the time. I've never had a problem with catching trousers on them, but I tend to keep the car fairly clean. When I see a Disco without them, it looks to me like something is missing.
Useful when filling the roof box when on holiday too.

Ditto Ave,

Good for kids to climb in, useful when cleaning it and also great when loading roof box / putting on cross bars etc. Just need to be careful the aluminium strip doesnt get nicked or fall off on the M25 like mine did.

My side steps have gained a few scratches and dents over 80k+ miles and much less expensive to replace/repair than the cills and doors should I wish to tidy it up. Great for loading roof boxes, putting your coffee on when working on the vehicle and older folk find them handy when getting in/out. Loads of discos have them on so they just look the norm to me.

Just fitted an aftermarket pair to the wife's D3 - she is tiny and uses them to get in and out.

I think they look smart

some nice pics posted on this thread Thumbs Up to aid making a decision I quite like the look of the bars but SWMBO, who is the caribbean equivalent of Mrs Bucket, thought that the sidesteps were "much more refined and befitting a vehicle the calibre of a D4"

So, I will probably go for the sidesteps and also mudflaps as I have read elsewhere that they help protect paintwork. Although I am not entirely incompetent with DIY, I would prefer to have them fitted so wondered if anyone could advise on best value for money way to buy and have fitted? I guess I could ask any garage but wondered if there was a non-dealer LR specialist in my neck of the woods [I am in outskirts of SW London/Surrey area]

Got mine off Ebay and fitted them myself - the instructions were fairly comprehesive and it wasnt a particularly difficult job.

Fitted perfectly and as the pics show - look the part

Thanks for this - nice price!. Do you have D3 or D4? I expect to collect my new D4 MY2013 in early March and wonder if they are likely to fit OK?

Mines a D3 mate - not too sure about fitting a D4.

Someone much wiser than myself will be able to provide a more definitive answer Thumbs Up
