Side steps or not
I want some full side steps for the LR3 but the misses says it will look pony, what's the verdict out there for these - looks good or shoddy? and can anyone recommend a reasonably priced place to purchase good after market ones?

Slimer on here is a good guy to speak to. Personally, I like the look of them but they don't do much for your ground clearance when off roading. My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

I personally don't like them - make an already wide motor even wider. Would come in handy for kids & older people getting in & out though.
In our house if SWMBO doesn't like something I usually steer clear of it! Not worth the agro!

I have them but don't use them, always manage to catch the back of my trousers on them though
I hate them, and on friends cars always manage to catch the back of my trousers on them, or stumble when getting out!

I have been considered whether to add sidesteps/running boards to the March delivery of my Orkney Grey XS. I have always liked the look of them every since I fell in love with the 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost as a child..........But having checked out the posts on here some like the looks and some don't. Some mentioned that they guard your paint against dings in carparks which is a really practical advantage. But does anyone actually use them as steps? and if so, what do you hang on to to haul yourself onto the seat once precariously balanced on one foot? Or are they just going to be a nuisance that you have to hurdle over to get in the car?
SMWBO thinks they might be useful as she is vertically challenged and also needs to offset a Caribbean counterbalance in the derriere dept. Any advice from those who actually use the sidesteps would be very welcome

I've got the bars with foot step sitting here waiting to be fitted Wednesday, I'm hoping they won't look as in your face as steps but still functional.
Will post a photo when done

thy're also called mud-kickers, so used to kick of the mud of your shoes/snowboots/sneakers/wellies so the interior stays clean. Most of the mud then stays on there and will simpy soil any trouser, dress or coat when you try to get in. If you like that, they're definitely your cup of tea. IMHO they are totally and utterly useless and not exactly an elegant addition.
But as usual, so many opinions and as the saying over here goes: some like the mother, and others the daughter.RLD Sump Guard

We have side steps. Bought for practical reasons as we are always putting Kayaks on and off the roof and they make the whole thing so much easier. I do think they look good and they are substantial proper steps.
We always use them for getting in and out the car too. Its more difficult not to. Nothing precarious about it and no need to haul in as its a simple step in. I'm trying to remember how exactly as it's so automatic but I think (for driver) it's right foot on step, left leg in, bum on seat, right in, done. I know on some cars, the side steps are rather small and are not much use. Hang onto the wheel (Driver) or the nice big chunky door handles - which fall easily to hand.
Curiously, I think you only get mud on clothes from the steps if you try to get in or out without using them. Never have this problem and the car is rarely clean.
N.B. Even my mum finds it easier to get into the Disco than her Focus and she's not as spritely as she used to be.
They do seem to have a deterrent effect in car parks too

We have a set of bars on the Defender and so am used to using those and so the transition on the disco was much easier.
It does feel a bit wierd at first, if you have been used to not having them, but in a very short space of time they become second nature.
Plus points: boot scraper;door protector in carparks;stops some of the crud flinging up the doors; only 125 from lr parts so if you do mangle them off road they arent too expensive to replace!
