Does that mean halogens cannot be fitted to D4s going into markets that require DRLs, or that DRLs for vehicles with halogens use the parker lights, same as the D3? I suspect either an ill-informed techo or a shortcoming in current T4 capabilities.

I think you will find that the former applies.
From the horses's mouth:
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
DRL use the full intensity low beam headlamps which are permanently illuminated when the vehicle is being driven. DRL are used in a number of markets and there are two systems to cover these markets.
DRL CANADIAN MARKET
DRL for this market use full intensity low beam headlamps. The side marker lamps and license plate lamps will be on, but instrument cluster illumination will be off. DRL are active when the following parameters are met:
Parking brake is off on vehicles with manual transmission or PARK is not selected on vehicles with automatic transmission
Ignition switch is in the ignition position (II)
The central junction box receives an engine running signal
The lighting control switch is in the off or side lamps position.
NOTE:
If the lighting control switch is moved to the headlamp position, DRL are deactivated and normal side lamp and headlamp functionality is operational.
NOTE:
Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) (where fitted) is not available when the DRL are active.
NOTE:
When DRL are active, the headlamp flash function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will operate normally. The high beam headlamp function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will be deactivated.
When the parking brake is applied on manual transmission vehicles or the selector lever is in the PARK position on automatic transmission vehicles, DRL are turned off. This is to reduce battery discharge during long periods of engine idling in cold climate conditions. When the parking brake is released or the selector lever is moved from the PARK position, normal DRL functionality is restored.
DRL DENMARK, HOLLAND, NORWAY, SWEDEN, FINLAND & POLAND
DRL for these markets use full intensity low beam headlamps. Side lamps and license plate lamps will be on, but instrument cluster illumination will be off. DRL are active when the following parameters are met:
Ignition switch is in the ignition position (II)
The central junction box receives an engine running signal
The lighting control switch is in the off position.
NOTE:
When DRL are active, the headlamp flash function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will operate normally. The high beam headlamp function using the left hand steering column multifunction switch will be deactivated.
If the lighting control switch is moved to the side lamp or headlamp positions, DRL are deactivated and normal side lamp and headlamp functionality is operational.
You will note that the LEDs are not the DRLs, but rather the dipped beam main lights. The option exists on all vehicles and is CJB programmed.
As for the LEDs themselves, they are wired into the same circuit as the standard side lamps, only with the addition of a LED driver. If this is missing, and can be fitted, there should be no reason why LEDs cannot be enabled on non-HSE vehicles.

Are you referring to the D4 here? I was already aware of the D3 situation above, although couldn't recall the exact details.
Edit. Oops - of course the D4 (LEDs)

Is there any update to this. Im getting my 4 in two weeks and had a good look at the demo GS and it looked to me that the LED's are in the hedlamp. This must be an easy Fix. Anyone on here that works for LR able to find out if turning on the DRL will work if possiable?!?!?350miles and cant wait to do more.

The LEDs and DRLs are different things. See above.

Sorry i see. Has anyone had any luck with a LED moduel then or checked to see it they are wired?? one would assume that if they are connected they can be activated as side lights like the HSE??350miles and cant wait to do more.

The wiring is the same, but it depends upon whether the LED driver is fitted or not - and it may also be that the CJB needs to be tweeked too. Probably too soon to come up with a straight answer.

Is your quote above from the D3 or D4 manual? Without actually checking it, it looks the same as the D3.

D4, but, as you say, there is no difference.
LEDs are the alternative to side lights, not dipped beam headlights.

Why not wait for model 2011 as all new cars in eu whether big or small car must come with day time running lamps perhaps thats why the lights have them at moment but not activated..
