pwheeldon: do what I did, after buying SWMBO all the gear and paying for the flight and accommodation she chickened out and was left at home
I can honestly say it is an experience not to be missed and only pleased I took it up when I was young enough to make the most of it, it’s worth going even if it’s only to travel on the lifts. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Never mind the midgies, they’re hardy enough up there!
Bit nippy in the Trossochs.

If you're only paying for one then head across the pond to Whistler or Colorado... not much difference price wise !
PS... if going to Scotland definitely take/hire helmets I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Update from Glencoe today is positive for weather, but tickets for the lifts seem to be sold out (lots head there at an hour or so notice if the conditions are favourable)
A93 snow gates were apparently shut last night but are open at the momentI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Drove across from the west coast to Dundee yesterday to see D-M and have some work done on the old bus. Not much snow to be seen other than on the very tops and high gullies.
This may also suggest that you should refocus efforts on persuading SWMBO to travel across the channel:

The funicular railway up Cairngorm has reopened. Should make access to the top runs with more reliable snow a bit easier.
