snow chains

Planning a trip to the French Alps in February 2008. I am currently running 255/55 19" Goodyear MTR's. Do I need snow chains? Its not an off road trip, but I don't know the area at all yet! Is it a legal requirement to carry snow chains? Do my tyres qualify as winter tyres? Does any one know of any problems using snow chains with these tyres? Any brands recommended? Do any members have any they would like to sell/hire? All help greatly appreciated. Ta.

Hello Steve,

You 'd better take some. Since few years, they are asking some quite often.
Can you imagine driving all these hours and been stopped because you don t have any chains?
And then try to find some in France! Big Cry Censored

If I were you, I would take some.

It is a frogy's advice. Thumbs Up

You could just take some with you if you do not have any you will get don as it is compulsory in some parts weather you use them or not but if you have some you are covered.
