Hi Andy
Just noticed your comment . As yours is a 2015 too I suspect you may have the same problem as I did. Apparently the firmware wont let the stop/start work due to it having a higher voltage requirement threshold. When they update the firmware it lowers this threshold. Mine has now worked constantly for almost 3 months and with no long journeys and the car standing for 2-3 days on some occasions.
I don't have any details of the fix unfortunately, just what they told me.

my problem was the stop/start battery, performed faultlessly (is that a good or a bad thing ) prior to battery failure and since being replaced 6 months ago.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Stop/Start
Hi Guys
Garry P and others will recall my earlier posts and just wanted to add that after 3 weeks stationary at home, little use during next week and another 3 weeks stationary the battery low message appeared when started car, as you may expect. Drove about 40 miles on and off and then had my 48k service 2 days ago although only 20k on clock to keep within time limits.
Stop/start worked when battery charged up and still working so no problems. I tend to think the software update is good and has solved the issues many of us have had over past years.
If still under warranty and you want s/s working get it done now otherwise will cost money later no doubt. Besides, if you wish to sell (which I have no intention of doing as it tows my caravan so very well) any buyer/dealer could see that as a defect and try to knock you on price. If you don't want it, as many seem not to like it, just turn it off but you will still have what LR intended in the first place as an economy measure.
Pity it took so long to resolve but I am now happy!
Cheers all!

Thanks for that Gary. Did you get a dealer to sort the software for you. I’ll have to get it booked in for a

Can this latest firmware be installed with the Iid tool?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sorry, only just noticed the last two questions. I know it's quite ;late to respond, but thought I would do so anyway for completeness.
My local dealer installed the software fix. I don't know if it can be installed with an iid tool (I suspect it's dealer only).
As an update, it's been working pretty much perfectly since the software update

Getting used to the D4 & now beginning to find a few of it's individual quirks.
I noted that the intelligent start stop hasn't functioned as yet. I realise it's a rare event on the D4 when compared to other cars. A check last weekend, saw no faults stored & a fully charged start stop battery.
Today I came across this fault logged. Could this be the reason it's not worked...yet?
Is that fault if it reoccurs something to raise with the garage to get looked at under warranty or just one of those occasional faults the logs from time to time?

Here’s a link to someone that had the same problem as you. Replace actuator and small battery but didn’t know which (or whether both) sorted the problem.
I would do a simple battery voltage check on the small stop start battery to see what the resting voltage is too.

-------------------------------------------
The small battery was charged & showing 12.83v when I got the fault code. Seems it could be the actuator.
I was wondering what size hammer to hit it with?
The list of things to fix when the car goes back to the garage seems to be growing!

As Mark says for stop start to work, it's also worth checking resting voltage of the main battery. Generally if the small battery goes the Eco stop/start not available warning light comes on.
If the small battery is good (and that voltage suggests it is) then the actuator may be faulty as you say. Sound like it would be worth addressing that first.
Please let us know what is found/the fix.
CheersGary

MY16 and owner for two months. Stop /Start has never worked, which for me is great as I don’t like it anyway.
However, my wife’s Evoque Stop/ Start function stopped working for a few months. Took it Halfords for a battery check and all OK. The technician plugged his tablet into the car and performed a 2 minute reset and it worked straight away and never failed again.
