Just back in UK after 12 years living in Zurich, still miss the place 
In winter I ran Good Year 'Ultra Grips' on a variety of vehicles there including a 4x4 which happily drove up a red piste to the restaurant without chains (Skiers not too amused though  ).
I found them to be really, really good and I would recomend them 100%. A plus point is that they have a speed rating of 160 kmh (compared to the 130 kmh I had with Continental Winter Contacts on the works vehicles).

I'm just coming up to 13 years in CH (work in ZH, live in AG). I miss the UK, but think I would regret going back now.

I was in Zurich from januari 4th till 17th. Drilling a Geothermal well.
Not much snow there just a small layer.
I noticed that the local people were much friendlier to us when we were talking englisch then German. Roel

We've had regular snow since the new year. Not a lot, but regularly. It's been pretty cold too this year though. It's around -5c at the moment. Coldest janaury since 87 apparently. It's very doodgy only having summer tyres in the winter. It'll mean leaving the car at home for a few days every couple of weeks or so.

It seems it didn't work out as hoped.
When I speak German to a lot of people, they switch to English. Many speak better English than 'high' German.

I see that this thread ended up on tires but to bring it back to how it started...any funny off-road events coming up during the spring in Switzerland or in the close area?
We're also looking at going south, Africa, for a week in April if anyone know's any trips or would like to group up for such a week. Not sure yet where we would go as Tunisia is a bit unstable at the moment so will search for options.

I'm also from Switzerland. (Dont own a D3 but a RR)
Live near Zurich. Does anyone know good paths to drive a bit offroad??
I know some in the Aargau (near the nuclear power plant beznau  )

Hello,
Nice with an RR - we had in the UK before moving to Zurich and it's also good fun to play with off road even if we tended to take it a bit easy with it... 
We're heading to Corsica on the 16th of April as it shall be nice for off road driving and a bit of camping.
In CH I'm yet not aware of any legal places to go to though parts of the French Alps will be interesting to explore from July-Sep when they open for off road.
By the powerplant sounds interesting, haven't heard of until now! Any more info how it works and what you can do and when?

Corsica should be great. I also think about a trip to the french alps in september when all my exams are done.
This spring I will go down to france for one week (annecy) there should be some places to drive offroad.
The powerplant is close to Böttstein. There are many gravel path around there where you "can" drive around. (No sign that is forbidden!)  I drive around there when I visit a friend who lives very close. Until now I have never seen anyone up on this little hills. (I normally drive around there friday evening and saturday/sunday morning)
There in the middle is a little village (Mandach) I've rarely seen anyone there. Its so quiet that people park their cars in the middle of the road when they go to postoffice

(Its just simple offroading but better than always drive on tarmac)

Probably the best bet is to check with the military, see if you can rent one of their panzer training fields and get a group together for a day of fun.
My dealer organizes just that every year in september and is just great, we get everything, from Defenders to FFRR.

Yes was nice. Maybe we do some day a rerun with schrauber. Closest to Switzerland is Saverne (F) 2 hours from Basel. Offers for everyone something. Maybe I organisze some day a rerun. My FFRR has now Mts and likes a bit of offroading before he goes to Corsika end off may  Daniel

I'm interested in doing some off-roading or alpine touring in Switzerland or Northern Italy. Not too extreme because I use my D3 every day and don't really want to risk rolling it down a mountain side.
A little about me:
Live in Beromünster (LU).
Long-time Land Rover fan.
51 years old, married with dog (they want to come too).
Native English-speaker but I do OK in German, Swiss-German, Italian and some French.
Former chef so I make a good camp cook and good food and wine would have to be part of the trip.
I'm self-employed so my schedule is pretty flexible.
I have a vacation house in Piedmont so I know the area pretty well.
