Talk to me about warranties

So my LR is up in March and thinking of taking another one out. LR have emailed me with their offering, which on the fave of it seems good. States the crank is covered which is my main issue. Has anyone had any success with the LR one or is it better taking out one from Warranty Direct or the like.

For the record it’s for my 15 plate D4 with around 52k on the clock.

Cheers Andy

If is still being serviced by a main dealer then I'd stick with the JLR warranty to be honest.

We still have it (just) on my wife's '62 plate D4 and it covered a whole raft of things last year despite being on almost 100k. Others may be slightly cheaper but as you have it in writing ref the crank shaft (we did too). We find the MOT element to be very useful.

Currently being serviced by JAS Landrover, only stipulation is that the servicing garage is VAT registered which JAS is. This is from the LR info on the warranty.

Yes.... but, in the terms and conditions:

11. Design Faults and Recalls Any damage to parts, which are being recalled by the vehicle’s manufacturer or which have inherent design faults are not covered by this Warranty.

This section has been specifically quoted to me with regard to the engine issue.
They suggest contacting Landrover customer services for a good will repair....

Regards
Steve

I suggest you do a lot more reading the warranties section of this forum. The JLR warranty, which is not JLR as it is Car Care, does not cover the crank issue and you will be entirely dependent on LR goodwill. The only warranty that comes close is Warranty Direct and that has proviso's. Lots of bedtime reading for you. Whistle Whistle

I have a recent letter from car care ( lr warranty) after I questioned them on known faults.....they clearly state they will NOT cover known faults....if you want a copy PM me your address...they still took £1060 off me to cover 12 months

If it’s a known fault and subject to a recall then shouldn’t it still be covered due to vehicles in the UK not being subject to that recall.

But yes think a bit of reading is required.

Also can someone explain please what “betterment” means. I’ve heard a couple of explanations and still not sure. I just know you need this clause taking out.

Anyway I’m off to the warranty section Thumbs Up

Betterment - a reduction in the value paid out for an agreed repair to reflect the ‘fact’’ that the repair may increase the car’s value - I had a letter from last warranty company I used to have it removed.

It's a few months ago, but I searched high & low before taking out a WD warranty on my D4.

I had one on my earlier D3, with no complaints.

You should be aware of their limited off-road cover. I got them to agree that going to race meetings, shoot venues would be covered, but green laneing is probably not unless the lane is a highway.

They did accept that BOATs (By-ways open to all traffic) were OK.

There is a member on here with a D4 that has LR extended warranty and from memory his D4 is about 4/5 years old. He recently suffered a crank failure and the whole bill was covered. He always has the car serviced by LR dealer.
My service manager also told me that if I take out LR extended warranty and keep getting car serviced by LR main dealer LR will ensure you are not out of pocket

Hi Andy
I took a 3 year WD warranty out in 2018 when my manufacturers warranty ran out. The LR warranty cost for 1 year was well over half the cost of WD for 3. On betterment, I remember I had the same query as you, but there was no such thing as betterment when I did min. It seems that their warranties don’t have it anymore. In addition the ‘negotiation’ on price seemed to have disappeared , but perhaps you’ll have more luck.
Like any insurance product it gives some peace of mind, and the feedback from those in the trade on here seems to be positive for WD. I do think, from what I’ve read, it can depend on the garage and how much effort they are prepared to put into working with the warranty company.
Haven’t had anything to claim on my warranty yet. Had my sunroof drain elbow go last year, but wasn’t covered. Did it myself with excellent help from this forum.
Interested to hear about you evaluations, decision and experiences.
Cheers
 Gary

That's absolutely correct although I am not that member. LR Service History, continuous LR extended warranty should ensure, if the worst happens: New JLR engine.
Not to mention the MoT cover.

Hi,
if you do go WD route do the Recommend a friend (not me I dont have a policy anymore) you both get a bit back.

There has just been a post on RRS will get a link but had a "no oil to crank failure NOT covered but L/R good will for 100%"

I took out a 3 year policy and had a phone conversation with WD asking if the policy was "prorata for each day of the 3 years and Not weighted in the first year" they said it was, so when I cancelled it I got a refund for each day left, seems they do weight it in the first year so check if your looking long term, but may cancel, it works out cheaper but you have to pay it out first Question

The WD policy suited us better as did not need recovery (covered by bank acc)

happy reading Thumbs Up
