Glad you'll still hang around Jamo.
Let us know how you go.
Porche did something to the peppered pig for a trip accross Russia. The air intakes are very vulnerable (but that was the turbo)“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

No, no-one does a snorkel. The air intakes aren't that vulnerable. Porsche quote a fording depth of 550mm.
The Transyberria Rally cars have a detachable snorkel and a detachable winch. These are not available from Porsche, but I'll be making enquiries to see who supplied them and if it's possible/feasible to acquire them. Have a nice day!

550mm is less the height of the tyre - if the air intakes are in a similar position to a Tuareg then be careful when wading, I know of a few Tuaregs that have drowned out here.....
The D3 has a wading depth of 700mm which is also less than the depth of a tyre!
Thanks for the tip, but I know enough about water crossings to avoid drowning.
It's more the electronics that are of a concern to me. I don't yet know where they are.
My main approach to water is to avoid it! I really want a snorkel for dust!Have a nice day!

Jamo, since I got my D3 in Jan 2006, I have followed your travails (trials and tribulations) in your D3 with interest. Back then there weren't many Aussie D3s registered on this site. You have had an interesting time with yours I hope the Porsche gives you as much pleasure. Being happy with your choice is sometimes more important than driving what others think is "the best". Please stay in touch through DISCO3.CO.UK as promised. We would love to hear of your adventures with the new car (even if it doesn't have the LR badge).
Naturally, I wish you all the best, and thanks for your many contributions to the forum.LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)
remember to post loadsa pics when you get it stuck
Duncan, I can safely say that I have never owned a vehicle that I haven't managed to bog! I'm just hoping I can get a winch tray on the front somewhere as I am too lazy for a hand winch.
(I just wanted to add that I am not changing because I was unhappy with the D3. On the contrary, although it had it's moments, it is a great car and undoubtably the best 'out of the box' 4WD money can buy. 8) )Have a nice day!

Interesting! For various reasons, I'm considering a Mercedes GL as opposed to the D4. What were your reasons for the change?
