Door lock failure
Hi there I just wanted to tell people about my fix on drivers door lock which had failed,you could see it was trying to lock/unlock on my disco 3 and was told needed a new lock motor.
I managed to fix it by manually switching it to lock and unlock 100 times which cleaned the internal motor brushes on armature and now works really well and fast,good as new.

I would not rely on it as it will only be temp fix. It is unlikely to work when the cold weather hits.

My discovery door lock fix has lasted for 12 months now ,even through last years harsh winter conditions .

I have experienced this with many electric motors,they start arcing and build up a soot between the brushes and the shaft ,so by turning motor manually it rubs the brushes against the metal and cleans off the residue .

I admit I have not taken a lock apart to check but presumed it was a standard solenoid which would put Mr Faraday's law of induction in the driving seat rather than anything with brushes?

Hi, you have to press the black tab and pull by hand ,so it is locking and unlocking manually without using power via remote,as this is turning the motor inside door without using any power.

No need to strip down,and take lock apart,but good to see the two grey motors,if you have got to this strip down you could pop motors out and bend the little metal tabs open and slide out the shaft and clean the little metal feelers which brush against the shaft using a bit of wet and dry,but would obviously try my 1st method of manually moving tab as its minimum effort and takes 5 mins and anyone can do it .

Didn't work for me, I can push the black tab to lock it but it won't open again with using the fob or dash button. Also i don't hear or feel any motor turning as i press it. Current: D3 TDV6 S; GGAT's, DIY 7inch Tablet mount, DIY Reversing Camera, Stage 1 remap, EGR delete

Good to know thanks. No such solution for a rear passenger door by any chance? Just had to have it replaced (or something)

Hi, All front passenger tab starting to stick, will sometimes close when pulling off and using the key, will try the manual fix tonight.
If i have to replace the mechanism, will one type fit all four doors ??

My drivers door lock went a bit lame two years ago but seems to have fixed itself.
Now the passengers door is very reluctant to flip the internal locking bar fully open.
It seems more like a stiff pivot than a motor problem as it works ok after its been used a few times.
