Flat battery

Hi all,

Firstly I've read through quite a few posts on batteries, I think I can explain everything, but wanted your thoughts.

Took the Disco on Tuesday to a nice man to darken the rear windows/back etc….when I went back five hours later, I was over the moon with tinted windows but disappointed as he’d left the key in the ignition all day. He did jump start it and had got it running for 20 mins or so. Today (Thursday), I jumped in and nothing, so I had to jump start her with the wife’s car….then drove for about 1hr to get to work…left in car-park all day, then about 3pm got back in and…..nothing again!

So anyway after another jump, on way home stopped in Kwik Fit, they checked the battery and alternator and said all was fine with them, so eventually got home and stuck it straight on my trickle charger, then logged on here to read all about batteries. The guy at Kwik Fit said that with these big batteries, even driving for an hour will not fully charge it and that either a really long run (A good few hours) or trickle charge for a day will sort the issue….(We’re actually going to the Isle of Skye on Saturday for half-term, so I think 600 miles should cover that). Reading the posts on here, this also seems to be what people are also saying….so the plan is….
- Let it charge all night tonight
- Drive to Skye on Saturday

Does this sound like a plan, thoughts welcome

Cheers

Hi mate, I had similar issues and a couple of trickle charges have sorted it. Take a look at my thread ( in fact I will update it for others that search similar problems)

brilliant Tangsoodo - I like your once a week advice....so will trickle charge it tonight as well as tomorrow night (Friday), then the 600+ miler on Saturday.

I'm tempted to take the charger and extension cable with me as well, just in case

Thansk again

Charge it properly with a good charger. Charging from the alternator takes over 8 hours of continuos driving with no additional electrical loads.

HELP!

At least 10 hours driving yesterday, arrived at 6pm, unloaded the car and then parked her up. Just jumped in at 2.45 to go for a drive and engine turned a couple of times, then nothing!

Battery flat Sad

I brought my charger, so will plug her in now so I hope she'll be OK for tomorrow, but any thoughts or ideas? I mean why is it flat, I'm sue the 600 miles should have fully charged her!!!

Not the best place to have a flat battery as well Sad

Went to Sky Auto parts after managing to just start her this morning after 10 hours of charging.

Anyway battery output was just over 11.1v but had a replacement, all now working (i hope)

Cheers
