D4 Tow bar - factory fit or after market |
|
Hi All
Im specifiying my disco today and i want a tow bar and electrics to tow a uk caravan.
Is is cheaper to go aftermarket, im sure ive seen swan necks for sale on here: and im sure ive read that all discoveries come from the factory with the wiring loom in place and only needs minor connections to commsion.
Any advice would be appreciated?
Oh yeah while im asking, do i need N&S Type or 13 PIN?
Many thanks
Ste Parky

We had ours done as part of the original order and we had the swan neck plus 13 pin connector - how much do you save overall for an aftermarket job? Not worth the hassle in my opinion. LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Hi,
I bought my brand new genuine twin electrics and tow bar for under £120 off flea bay, took 1/2 an hour to fit electrics, then you have to get it switched on for around £30. So looking at around £150 all in. I believe supplied and fitted is around £550, it's a fair saving.
To clinch the deal would the dealer throw it in or do a deal to get the sale?
Regarding the pin choice, I believe it's relative to the age of what your going to tow, the newer is the 13 pin choice, the older is the 7 pin.
It's your choice

I believe if the Dealer fits the accessories within one month or 1000 miles you get three years warranty
